“weekend trip with shearings”
Reviewed 15 May 2014

We have just returned from a weekend trip ,,, friday to monday with shearings at the beresford hotel, the hotel is on the edge of town right on the sea front. Our room 212 was convenient with tv hair dryer and tea making facilities. The room was comfortable but the bathroom needs up dating,,, the trip down to the hotel was mard by a pick up around nine a, m, only to pass within ten minutes drive to home several hours later this also happened on the wayback. We passed bromsgrove motorway turning at 1 thirty to then go on to crawley services to get back to drop off at dudley at half past four !!!!. This was all about the feeder coaches and driver (must have ) breaks by law . The shearings logistics I think need more thought. The coaches are comfortable and so are all thestaff we encounted,,, the food at the hotel was was good but you have to sit where you are put with other people,,, this may not work for everybody but we werent bothered and the couple we sat withwere lovely,,, the entertainment was good.... overall we really enjoyed the trip except for the journey to and from our drop off point at dudley,,,,, go , enjoy, its value for money,,,,

Room Tip: A front room would make your holiday

Hi Alan

Thankyou for commenting on trip advisor about your stay at the Beresford Hotel last week.

That does sound annoying, passing your home after travelling sometime, but I am glad that you enjoyed your stay once you arrived.

Kind regards

5 day break with Chris our driver was a bargain for what it costs. Nice hotel room but a pity it was at the back but it was clean with a lovely bathroom. Had inclusive trips to Flambards and the Cider Farm, with free samples and a lovely cream tea. Another included trip to the Cornish Gold treasure park.
There were also additional trips at a reasonable price to Mevagissey, which is a lovely fishing village and another to Falmouth with a really good fish n chips restaurant.
Had a brilliant time and would recommend it, the food was good with a choice of meals but they weren't large portions but it was plenty for me with 3 courses and coffee. Our waitress Jenna was very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. All the hotel staff were friendly and always spoke to us in passing.
There was entertainment every night which was ok, the comedian was quite good but the bingo was boring, however it was soon over. On the down side, the chairs in the entertainment lounge were very hard and uncomfortable so we sat in the other lounge where we could still hear the entertainment.
We were given a drinks card which can be used from lunch time till closing time. You are allowed 4 drinks per day, a drink is a half pint or a pint of beer, best opt for the pint lol, or a spirit or a small glass of wine or soft drinks. We thought this was quite a good deal as it is included in the package.
The lift is TINY, it only hold 2 people and is quite a tight fit and it is quite slow, best to take the stairs it is quicker!!
The hotel is in a good position overlooking Tolcarn Beach and the surfers are out from early morning till dark. It is quite a walk to the harbour area but you can walk across the beaches when the tide is out, but there are nice shops if you go the long way round.
Overall an excellent holiday, a good driver and a decent hotel. A bargain.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have an excellent view, worth the supplement. If you are not very mobile chose...

Hi

I am so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us, and found the hotel to be comfortable and friendly!

I have noted your comments about the chairs in the ballroom, planning is in place to have the whole ground floor refurbished in January, so hopefully this could solve the problem!

Kind regards

Just returned from the above break at the Beresford. This was an excellent holiday all round, the package, the coach and driver (Chris) and the hotel. A smooth coach journey there and back along with very good excursions, especially the trip to Flambards. The hotel staff were very friendly and polite. The room we had was very good, very clean and comfortable. The menu selection and quality of food was excellent, also I must not forget the restaurant staff as their service was first class, especially as the restaurant appeared to be at capacity at times. The entertainment was very good, with singer musicians on two nights, a singer on the third and a comedian on the final night along with a very pleasant compare/host. So there we are one of the best Shearing breaks we've been on.

Room Tip: We had 312 on the third floor, serviced by a lift. very clean, comfortable with a large shower room...

We have just returned from a 5 day break with Shearings to the Bay Beresford Hotel, Newquay and all in all we enjoyed our time there. You really do get what you pay for, which sometimes means that yes, the hotels are a bit tired and rough round the edges, and this was no exception, but our room was spacious and clean, the bathroom was small, but we had plenty of hot water. The shower was not very good as there was more water leaking down the sides than actually coming out of the shower head, but as we were only there for a short time we coped with it. We did report it to Reception on the first day, but it was never dealt with.

The food was very average, breakfasts were good, but Dinner left a lot be desired! The staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful but did seem to run off their feet. Entertainment was ok and we met some lovely people. All in all, the price was very good and included 2 excursions and four free drinks per person per night, so as I said, you get what you pay for.

Room Tip: it's was well worth paying a bit extra for a sea view, as the hotel is right opposite Tolcarne b...

Just got back from newquay after staying in the beresford. Hotel could do with some decorating and the side of the hotel where another building has been pulled down looks a mess and a bit off putting. I don't think I would choose that hotel if I had driven there and got a last minute booking because of that wall.which would be a shame because the food was good, bedroom clean, towels and even shower curtain changed a few times whilst we were there and the staff very friendly. If you go get a room with a sea view, we didn't but the ones who did said it was a lovely view. Oh by the way we were woken up with an alarm call for six on the day of departure. Normally we would have had the phone ring to wake us up but this was an alarm on the phone. Very loud and made us both wonder what on earth was going on! Be warned! If you don't want this remember to tell reception because I did ask and everyone gets this! The four free drinks were a bonus. We didn't use all ours as we both don't drink much but they can be used for bottled water at the bar which was very good because we didn't like the taste of the water when we had our dinner! We would go again.

Room Tip: Rooms with a sea view would be a bonus.

Shearings are offering some great deals at the moment, well worth a look at both Bay Hotels and Coast and Country Hotels.

Just returned from a great time at this hotel. We had a lovely, warm, comfortable sea view room, Have been twice before but the food has definitely improved-both taste and presentation. The staff efficient and helpful, and the whole experience great value for money.Shearings driver Roger was very informative and helpful too.The room that we had was more stylish and modern than at our previous visits.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are definitely worth it despite the traffic noise.

Hi

Thanks for your comments.

I assume from the review that you had one of our refurbished rooms, the investment programme is well planned, and we expect another batch to be started at the end of this year, so more and more of our guests can expect that standard of accommodation.

Phil, our Chef was delighted that you found the food better than before, he is continually reviewing the quality and presentation and is always pleased when this has been noticed!

Hope to see you again soon

Kind regards

We have just returned from a 5 day break at the Bay Beresford hotel in Newquay Cornwall with Shearings holidays and can only praise everyone involved. Although the journey was a little longer than we would have liked (my wife has a major back problem) it went very smoothly. The hotel allocated us an adapted ground floor room which was in an excelent position and even had an orthopeadic adjustable bed which gave my wife some of the best sleep she has had at a hotel for a long time. the 4 free drinks a day also helped ;-))). All the staff where so cheerful and helpfull even at the end of the day. The choice and quality of the food was way above expectations. In all a very enjoyable break which we hope to repeat later in the year.
