“Excellent Value for Money!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 March 2009

My parents stayed in this hotel on an all inclusive basis and couldn't praise it enough. The food, the staff, the entertainment were all top class and the hotel room itself was clean, and well looked after. Staff were really obliging and even the Shearings coach drivers (Ken in particular) was fantastic being really informative and friendly ! Any negative would be that my parents were given a room with a bath rather than shower and this caused some problems as they have mobility issues. The other bugbear is that they were expected to share a table with other guests in the restaurant for both dinner and breakfast.A separate table would be preferred. I can guarantee though that my parents will return to this FAB hotel!

We have just come back from an all inclusive break with Shearings staying at the Beresford. I had some misgivings before going, but they were all unfounded. You get exactly what it says on the tin, and shopuld expect to pay for drinks, meals etc which are not listed on your booking form.
We found the room clean and more than adequate, it was exactly what we asked for, with an excellent view of Tolcarne beach. The food was adequate and good with plenty of choice, the entertainment wasn't to our own taste, but there are plenty of other lounges to use if you are not into what is provided. The drinks are free from 6 -11 pm, as stated and there was no queuing at the bar.
We were told amount the tiny lifts before arriving, but never found them to be a problem (I suppose if you are claustrophobic, they might be though)
All in all it was an excellent autumn break, well done Shearings

We booked this hotel for a self drive Mon - Thurs holiday. We had one previous experience of Shearings holidays and had been pleasantly surprised. However, this hotel was a let down. The reception and lounge area are well furnished and inviting but what lay behind 'closed doors' was not pleasant. The extremely tiny lift was continually not working on Monday evening and Tuesday morning. I carried our cases up three flights of stairs. I am reasonably fit but for elderly and less able people, it would be impossible. Our room had a layer of dust on it, the shower was broken, the hot water tap would not turn off properly. The general decor was poor e.g. the sliding wardrobe door had a dent in it, the room door didn't fit - there was a huge gap at the floor end. The whole room was in need of a makeover. The food was ok but the portions were so small, they wouldn't have filled up our 4 year old grandson. The final straw was the delivery lorry arriving at 6am right underneath our window. If we wanted an early morning call, we would have requested one. We packed and left Tuesday morning. The only redeeming feature of this hotel was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff.

We are a group of 6, one of us is disabled. On arrival we had a problem with the bedroom/bathroom not being large enough. We had booked through Shearings explaining the problems we have, and they said that they had booked us a large enough room. They had'nt. So the manager got others to move out of their (sea view) room, and put our disabled friend and his mum and dad in it. One problem solved.
However to get up to this room you have to go for a ride in a coffin. That is what the lift looks like. It is that small. i am 20 stone and couldnt fit in. Our disabled friend is unable to stand up straight, and his mother had to squeeze in to hold him up. This "lift" has to be seen to be believed. It is impossible to fit a small wheelchair in.
The Hotel does not have a disabled toilet. So when our friend needed the toilet, (as he requires help) he and his mum had to go up in that lift to use the one up in his room.
There is a ramp at the front of the Hotel, but on the other side of the door are two chairs and a table. No room to get a wheelchair in, unless you move the table and chairs.
Our problem was caused at the Shearings booking desk. they are saying now that this Hotel is not disabed friendly. Then why did they book it for us, as we had told them of of our disability problem?????????????????????????????????????
The staff at the hotel were great, they bent over backwards to help us. The food was ok, nothing special. Dont be late as most of the popular meals run out early. Entertainment, do you like bingo? Acts were'nt too bad. This was an all inclusive holiday, and the drinks were good. The hotel is a bit dated, and it looks like they have crammed rooms together (made two rooms out of one).
The Beresford Hotel is part of the Shearings/WA Group. I think they should put their hands in their pockets and put a disabled toilet in. Plus get rid of those coffins. Then maby it would get rave reviews.
So if you are disabled, stay clear of this hotel. If you are not disabled, enjoy it. And go and have a laugh at the "lift".
Graham

found the hotel good value for money, food good, could do with redecorating - but if you don't need the lift - all the staff were very pleasant and helpful

We have just returned from a week at this hotel with Shearings Holidays. The reception area, lounges and dining room are very pleasant and comfortable, however our bedroom was in need of some redecoration and refurbishment. It looked very tired and uninviting but it was spacious with lovely views over the bay, the bed was comfortable and tea and coffee making facilities never in short supply. The bathroom was in a sorry state, the handbasin was cracked as was the toilet cistern and the bath looked as if it should have been replaced many years ago! But the shower was excellent, always plenty of hot water and clean towels every day. We were on the first floor but my husband is disabled so we needed to use the lift:this will only hold two people at a time and even then it's a bit crowded! The food was excellent, with good choices every day and the dining room staff were very pleasant. We had a lovely holiday but we would not stay at the Beresford again unless it undergoes major refurbishment.
