“All Night Party near Fistral”
Reviewed 22 July 2008

Staff
The service was poor. The breakfast room staff could not remember my order two days in a row (wrong food delivered). It was difficult to find any staff sometimes, the ground floor seemed to be deserted. The best member of staff was the Night Porter who tried to keep all the party animals quiet during the early hours.

Room
The room was in dire need of refurbishment if you are looking for a 1980's experience you would be happy here. There is no sound proofing in this hotel, we got woken up at 3am, 4am, 5am by other guests returning from nights on the town. Some even had a party in their rooms. The light on the ceiling of our room rattled when the guests upstairs walked round. The en suite shower room was tiny (no good if you have young kids). Good views of Fistral Beach.

Hotel in general
If you are young and want to party all night this is the place for you. Good proximity to Fistral beach and Newquay Town, both an easy walk. The ground floor of the hotel has had a modern refurbishment, so first impressions were good.

We checked out a day earlier than planned due to no sleep for two nights. When we mentioned the lack of sound proofing the male receptionist said "what do you expect the floor is 100 years old!".

We stayed at the Carn Marth hotel for a weekend in Newquay. I must say that the negative comments on this website did worry me a little, but upon arrival my fears were immediately dispelled.

The hotel has a new and funky feel and the staff, far from being moody as suggested in a previous review, were friendly, curtious and very helpful. (perhaps when confronted by an unreasonable person people naturally become defensive...) We had a meal in the hotel bar overlooking the gof course and Fistral beach and were pleasantly suprised by both the cost and taste. Both were very good indeed.

The room was more than big enough for the two of us and the decor was clean and tidy. The bed was comfy and the view was just brilliant.

Over all I would reccommend this hotel to anyone for it's friendly welcome, service and superb views.

This hotel has a great location, a nice bar and reception but that's where the positives end. The £80 low season economy room we were given was easily the worst room I have ever seen in a hotel or b&b - I wish I'd had my camera to take some pictures, they would have said it all. The room was tiny, the bed was really small and the mattress soft with age, the windows were dirty. The decor was so horrible it looked like it had been furnished from a car boot sale.

Our breakfast experience wasn't any better - an awful full english breakfast which we skipped the next day and moody staff.

No hot water from the shower in the evening.

Our comments fed back on checking out were met with a dismissive and defensive responses along the lines of:

'what do you expect for what you're paying?'
'it's not £80, it's £40 per person' - yes x2 people is £80.
'you're paying for the location'

and my personal favourite:

'if people are willing to pay it, why should we change it?'

There are better b&b's in Newquay for less than half the price.

We stayed at Carnmarth again for 3 nghts in mid October. This time we booked a first floor room with a balcony.... well worth the extra cost. The en-suite room had a very comfortable super king size bed plus Radio & CD player.
The games room is currently being converted into an "indoor marquee" for the wedding market.
Apart from Breakfast, meaks are now only served on Friday & Saturday evenings, and till 3pn on Sundays, As we stayed on Sun, Mon&Tues we missed out on that, rather dissapointing as the evening food is good. "The Red Lion" pub is a good alternative about 5 minutes walk away.

Still "a "4"
