“Sunny times”
Reviewed 12 June 2013

We booked this via a Travelzoo deal initially and then upgraded to a balcony view. The view is outstanding but its a shame the sun only shines onto the balconies early in the morning, my hopes of a early evening vino in the sun were dashed! We arrived early at 11.30, parked with no problems, and let reception know we were here. We walked across the cliff (10mins) to Lewennick Lodge for lunch and whilst there had a message from reception to say our room was ready. After we had checked in we went to the spa and enjoyed excellent, professional treatments. The relaxation room not so relaxing full of an over excitable hen do!
We had dinner in the hotel which was very nice but had we been paying full price I would have been disappointed, just small things like forgetting our bread and water. Again the sea view at sunset was stunning. We finished the evening in the bar which had a chilled out atmosphere and plenty of people watching. We slept with the patio door open and were awoken by 2 coaches with their engines running on the road below, not an issue for us but could grate if you enjoy a lie in. Breakfast was perfect, check out was efficient and we left very happy.

We stayed for 3 nights and booked through secret escapes, got a really good deal including b/fast and dinner.
we were really impressesd with the whole experience, our welcome on arrival was superb, very friendly and great service, even had a phone call to the room after 10-15 mins to check if everything was ok with the room which was nice touch. The hotel has just been refurbished, and the room was nice clean and modern, the food was much better than expected, well presented along with good service, staff at the bar were again very customer focused, we had full use of the spa facilities some of the time we had the spa to ourselves. The hotel has a good location overlooking Fistral beach.
we would definitely return for a stay here. Well done to the staff as they are very customer focused, polite and courteous, good food / service , good location, clean smart hotel.

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at the Fistral Beach Hotel. Although we pre-booked parking at the hotel, this had not been arranged and was not available when we arrived. This, however did not cause any problems during our stay as we always managed to find a space and we were not charged for the reserved parking. The room was clean and well fitted - only lacking in hooks to hang any towels that we did not want washed during our stay. Our deal booked through Secret Escapes included Breakfast and Dinner and was extremely good value. The food was served by attentive and polite staff, was well cooked and well presented. My wife needs a guten free diet - the menu detailed which dishes were Gluten Free and they also offered Gluten free rolls and toast available on request.
The hotel is approx 10 minutes walk from the main town - although some people may find this a disadvantage, it did mean excellent unspoilt views of the sea and beach and less restricted parking and also quieter at night.
Whilst we were there, we did use the pool - this was quite small but adequate. It was very clean and well fitted with towels available for use in the pool area and good changing and shower facilities.
Overall a very enjoyable stay, made even better by the friendly and courteous staff. I would definitely recommend this hotel - especially if you can book to include dinner.

Room Tip: We were allocated a sea view room although Secret Escapes indicated that all the sea view rooms were...

We booked directly over the recent Bank Holiday weekend. We arrived and found parking in a free bay was fine on two occasions that we returned after venturing out of the hotel. There are about 20 - 25 free spaces and few reserved spaces (£10 additional charge per day). And there is free parking on the road outside of the hotel grounds.

Upon arriving we were greeted by friendly welcoming staff on what was a miserable day. The Spa and other services were shown to us and we were directed to the 1 very small lift that was frequently being used by the hotel staff/ cleaners to cart dirty bedding and washing around.

We had a Best Room with a balcony and what can I say but this was fantastic. The view is to die for and the bed was extremely comfortable. The best room has a separate toilet to the room. However the bath, shower and sink are all open plan to the rest of the room. The bath is free standing and situated in front of one of the two double sliding doors, where you can watch over the waves crashing over the headland.

Everything was very clean and tidy and the refurbishments have made a huge impact. However there does seem to be an influx of workmen relatively early in the areas where guests could be asleep or at least resting. This was our checkout day so we weren't too affected by this but it was something that could be timed a little better.

The Spa is seems a little bit like an after thought here. The pool is very small and frequently had visitors doing lengths and taking up the whole pool. It is only a 10m pool and did become quite overcrowd relatively quickly. But other than this small gripe it was exactly what the doctor ordered. Maybe a separate pool for lane swimming or a designated time would resolve this.

The treatments however I have no complaint about. My partner and I enjoyed a coupes holistic massage and the two ladies that performed this made the afternoon float away.

Although this review has mentioned some negative points this are very small things in the grand scheme of our trip we were very please with the hotel and spa and would return at the drop of a hat.

I have just arrived back from two nights at Fistral Beach Hotel with my teenaged daughter. We were visiting potential universities in the West Country and I booked here after seeing it on Secret Escapes hoping to make it a post exam treat. The location is amazing and our room had great views over the bay but I feel the hotel did not live up to the luxury Boutique tag it had on the Secret Escape site.
The room was clean and pleasant but no more luxurious than a Premier Inn room. There was no mini bar and no drinking water supplied in the room so our only option apart from drinking the highly chlorinated and unpleasant tasting tap water was to buy small bottles for £1.75 from the bar. My daughter and I had twin beds but on pulling back the cover my sheet was ripped and on further inspection I found that the fitted sheet was too small for the bed and my daughter's bed had been made up with the same size sheet so didn't fit either. Reception sent someone straight away who told us this had happened a lot - so why had it been left for us to complain before it was sorted?
We had booked on a room only basis as we had thought we would explore Newquay and eat out as my daughter may study there. We hadn't realised it was so far out of town and really it was unrealistic to walk in and back after a long day and only checking in at 7pm. Having said that the evening meal in the hotel was good - unfortunately I can not agree with other reviewers about the breakfast. Again we had thought we would go out for breakfast but ended up eating in. There was no option to have only continental so we had to pay £12 for a full breakfast. Thinking we may as well have a full breakfast if we had to pay we ordered pancakes and bacon only to be served shop bought pancakes and foul maple syrup with bacon that had been kept warm and was dry and unappetising. To be fair the waitress noticed we didn't each much and only charged us for one breakfast.
My final complaint is with the parking. I had rung ahead to enquire about parking as we were arriving late and was told they could not guarantee a place but I could reserve a space for £10. I agreed to do this and arrived after a 6 hour drive at 7pm to find a space had not been reserved. this was sorted out by reception but the same thing happened twice the next day - every time we left we returned to find no reserved space. When we came to pay we had been charged anyway - although this was deducted.
I have to say the staff were always friendly and helpful but our experience was certainly not a luxury boutique one.

I had booked a one night stay via Secret Escapes and it was fantastic value for money. The hotel upgraded our room to a sea view room on the second floor. The staff were very helpful, efficient and made us feel very welcome. The spa facilities were brilliant and well worth a visit. We ate in the restaurant for both breakfast and our evening meal and thought the food was absolutely fantastic. I will definitely be returning to this hotel in the future.

Room Tip: Go for a room with a sea view, you will not be disappointed

The location

The hotel is situated at the end of a no through road with free on street parking (very useful as there are limited car parking spaces at the hotel). It sits majestically above the Fistral beach with access by steps down to the sands. The location is hard to beat and whilst I was there a German film company were using the area in front of the hotel to film a new Rosamunde Pilcher film. It is a short walk into the centre of Newquay and there is a lovely walk to the Pentire Head and to the ferry to Crantock beach.

The front of the hotel commands stunning views across the bay and it is delightful to sit in the dining room or lounge/bar just admiring the view.

The hotel was closed from October to March and the renovations and refurbishment have updated the hotel to a high standard. The bedrooms were well equipped and have been tastefully furnished and have the benefit of thick carpets. The beds are quality hypnos beds and there is adequate storage. The bathroom was also well equipped and complimentary dressing gowns and slippers are provided. It is well worth the extra money to pay for a sea view BUT please bear in mind this is a windy location so you may reconsider incurring the additional expense of a balcony.

If you read the hotel room brochure you will see this hotel offers many extras from complimentary shaving, sewing and shoe kits to complimentary shower caps and toothpaste and toothbrushes. Maps, bus timetables etc are also provided from reception.

The Spa facilities

The indoor pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna were excellent. Complimentary towels are provided as is shampoo, hair conditioner, body wash in the changing/shower facilities. PARENTS OF CHILDREN UNDER 16 - PLEASE NOTE YOUR CHILDREN ARE NOT ABLE TO USE THE POOL.

Restaurant

Very good service by willing staff, very good selection for the breakfast menu and superb selection for the evening meal. Wine was priced reasonably. (Coach tour guests please note that a limited menu is offered)

The reception staff although young and a little inexperienced ( as the hotel only reopened about 6 weeks ago) were very helpful and it was very refreshing that they were happy to spend time helping guests.

ALL IN ALL THIS HOTEL IS HARD TO BEAT FOR LOCATION, QUALITY, COMFORT and I look forward to returning in the not too distant future.

A NOTE FOR FAMILIES - children under cannot use the indoor pool and the hotel is not geared up for children

Room Tip: If you can afford it pay for a sea view room. It is debatable if the rooms with a balcony are worth...
