Just returned from a fantastic late summer break at The Carlton Hotel, Newquay. The hotel is fantastic - luxurious accommodation, great location, spotless inside and our room had incredible views over the glorious North Cornish coastline. Debbie and Mark were brilliant hosts, always available for help and assistance regarding the local area and breakfast each morning was superb with something for everyone. We would definitely recommend this hotel to others and will be doing so to our friends.

This is the second time we have stayed for four nights over the Bank Holiday weekend and again we had a fantastic experience. The hotel is luxurious and furnished to a very high standard which is meticulously maintained by the owners Debbie and Mark who always make you feel welcome. The hosts provide an excellent breakfast which is delivered to the same high standard as everything else - their attention to detail is 100%.
Already missing the place and we cant wait to return next year!

Room Tip: All excellent...

We met here in 1971, and it was interesting to see just how much this hotel had improved in 43 years. Then it was brown, dingy and full of idiosyncrasies like sherry before dinner, and brown Windsor soup. What a transformation!

The hotel is light, airy and modern, and attention to detail is key. Debbie is very welcoming, and does her level best to ensure that you have everything you need. The hall is warm and welcoming, and the public rooms a delight. I spent many a happy half hour ensconced in her sofas with book, and with the bar area adjacent, it could not have been more convenient. The decoration is tasteful, and quirky, with ornaments and memorabilia from the era in which the hotel was built, and she and her husband have managed to modernise the hotel without sacrificing the joys of the Victorian building.

We had a room on the first floor, with huge picture window overlooking the main beach. In 1971, those views were uninterrupted, but recent development has got in the way a little. Our room was large, and the adjacent shower room even more so, in differing hues of caramel, cream and gold. The bed was enormous, very comfortable (1600 springs!) and we were smothered with a duvet so dense that we sank into it.

Breakfast was generous, superbly cooked and plenty of it, and ruled out any need for lunch! The dining room was the one room which had not changed location, but happily no longer brown Windsor soup on the menu.

We used the hotel as a base to revisit past haunts, and to see how much they had changed. We also visited restaurants which would have been well outside our budget in 1971, had they existed, so plenty of choice for good food locally too.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay (even though the Bank Holiday Monday must have been one of the wettest on record), and shall plan to go back (possibly with our Zimmer frames, if we leave it another 43 years!) before too long. Do go.

Room Tip: We liked the front rooms with views over the beach, cliffs and town

We have wanted to stay at this hotel for a while but it has always been fully booked so we were delighted to finally get some availability and we were not disappointed.

The hotel is spotless and the service offered by Debbie is first class because she can not do enough for you. The rooms are gorgeous and cleaned every day whilst the choice at breakfast is fantastic.

Debbie offered us beach towels when we needed them and offered advice on where to eat and visit which we found really helpful.

We had to return a day earlier than expected due to a family member taking ill but we could have stayed much longer as we certainly did relax and unwind at this gem of a hotel.

Overall, this was a truly wonderful experience which is a credit to the owners and we will definitely be back.

You will not be disappointed if you stay here and we highly recommend it.

This was a last minute booking for us and we're grateful that Debbie and Mark accommodated us with our 16 and 19 year olds. Newquay is an ideal location for exploring Cornwall and we used the hotel as a base for travelling out everyday. We looked forward to returning to the hotel every day just as if we were going back home. The breakfast kept us going for most of the day hence, if you plan to taste Cornish delicacies on days out, we suggest you go for the lighter breakfast option and not the full English. We're looking forward to going back to the Carlton.

When our taxi pulled in front of the small building nestled alongside the steep street and the Atlantic, the first thing we saw were the neatly trimmed palm trees welcoming the visitor to the front door of this wonderful boutique hotel. We were greeted by Debbie, the owner. Her warm smile and charm melted away all of the stress left over from a wait at the taxi stand at the train station. She proved to be the best hostess anyone could imagine. It would be so easy to believe that she was the person who originally coined the phrase "customer service". Our five night stay was too short. Debbie and Mark made us feel so welcomed and relaxed, that we'll certainly visit when we return to the UK!
Super bed and breakfast / Boutique hotel!!!! 10/10 rating!!
