We booked for two nights for a Stag Do. The room cost £29 per person per night and was worth it for the room and the location we were in.
We paid our £30 bond each on arrival and were told that if anything wasn't up to scratch when we entered the room all we needed to do was go back to the reception and she, who was very helpful and polite (didn't get her name but she had blonde hair) would make a note of it for us.
Yes the rooms are basic, but it's a surf lodge and for 10 people in one room it was what we needed. Bathroom facilities were good and the beds were fine. People who've complained about it should really think about what they're booking and the amount they're paying before having a go at the place.
Throughout the weekend the reception staff were excellent, helpful and friendly especially another lady (this one had dark hair) who helped us to print out our boarding passes for our flight home.
Overall, we all enjoyed Bertie's. We got what we paid for and for that we were happy.

When we arrived, we were each told we needed to pay a £30 cash deposit. This was not mentioned on booking. But we obliged and payed.
When we came to collect our deposit it was £10 short. The money was either counted in wrongly or stolen by the hotel.
The whole place has a stench of sick/disinfectant. As if a major incident had occurred?
The rooms are cramped and are only fit for standing in.
They are not fit for sleep due to the industrial extraction system outside the window, which seemed to be in overdrive during our stay.

Stayed with the other half for a couple of nights in August 2014 as it was the only place in Newquay that had a room available at short notice. I have stayed in basic accommodation before but this place takes the word basic to a whole new level. How they have the nerve to ask for a £30 deposit per person is beyond me. All there was in the room was a broken bed, a really old TV (no remote and definitely not flat screen) and a massive bin that hadn't even been emptied. The carpet in the room was filthy, there were stains on the walls and a really odd dusty "shelf" hanging over the bed. The place was so filthy that I couldn't bring myself to try the breakfast. And to be honest I made a concerted effort to spend as little time as possible in the place.

Booked a 4 person room for one night on Boardmasters weekend. Read some of the reviews beforehand and felt a little concerned that we had maybe made a terrible decision!
Yes, you do have to pay a 30 pp deposit upon arrival, but to be honest we knew that we weren't going to trash the room and so knew that we would get it back.
The receptionist was welcoming and helpful.
When we got to the room we were pleasantly surprised, we knew that we had booked a room in a surf lodge ....not a 5 star hotel! The beds were clean and perfect for what we needed (to sleep in for a few hours after a night out!) yes there were some dubious stains on the carpet, the door had a dent and only one tap worked but for the price it was fine.
No, I wouldn't choose to book this room for a family holiday, but we needed a cheap place to stay in the centre of Newquay, we didn't want to have to pay extortionate taxi prices and so it was fine for what we needed!

I attended berties lodge, for a friends stag do at the end of July. We arrived to an extremely rude and unwelcoming receptionist. She then Asked for a total of £150 deposit for the room that was not previously advised to us. We then had to find an atm ourselves, after paying £12 each day for parking!!! The room was tiny with bunk beds, and frankly disgustingly dirty; and so was the whole hotel for that matter! The breakfast not included was dreadful, I can't find the words. Finally apparently you're not aloud to eat in the hotel reception that we paid far to much money for! That is all; a must to avoid!

So it was my eighteenth birthday weekend, butties was the only hotel I could see that had a 10 person dormitory, for the price it was I couldn't say no, but when we first got there we had to pay a £ 30 deposite which was not stated on the Web but the lady at the desk was very rude to my girlfriend in saying that it was, telling her if she doesn't like it then go somewhere else, what a rude cow! Then we got into our rooms and it was a rubbish little side room( no a seaview) there were holes in the walls, the bunk beds were extremely dangerous, the bathroom was disgusting and the room was constantly boiling hot all the time. Also the breakfast buffet wasn't even a buffet, it was a pile of s**t. This list could go on forever, I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone, in fact if you're going to stay there then do yourself a favour and don't, rant over. But I'd recommend Newquay to as a place to go!

Had a last minute trip down to Newquay . Booked this hotel as this was one of the last places left in Newquay.

Place was awful. This accommodation really let's Cornnwall down and possibly the whole of the uk down.

Ripped off by £30 room deposit EACH before get keys to the room! You don't get your money back before Les gives the OK on the room when you check out

You have to check in via Hotel Victoria for Bertie's lodge . It's like going from the Hilton to the streets.

Iron burns everywhere on the carpet

Bathroom falling to bits

No towels

Bunk beds bloody dangerous

Split wood on the steps to the bunk beds so can cut your foot

Shower kept running hot n cold

Roof of the room was dangerous . Could cave in at any minute .

Dirty linen

Do not stay here

In fact avoid Newquay entirely
