On arrival outside flat all appeared nice. On entering flat our excitement ended as soon as we seen the very badly stained carpet and dirty old sofa. Windows all dirty and covered in bird droppings. Balcony furniture rusted and jammed tight, had to be forced open to used. Uncleared glass table top lifted from floor and placed on table top.
As an employee of the NHS I have good knowledge of what is clean or not. Back in car to supermarket for cleaning materials.
Returned to flat spent a hour cleaning and reassuring my wife all would be good. Ran out of cleaning wipes for sofa, had to use spare quilt to cover sofa for duration of holiday.
Unable to open bathroom window and kids spare bedroom window. En suite shower came off fitting first use.
Telephoned maintenance man with problems. He was at door within 30mins. Temp fix to shower. Promised to return next day with plumber and get windows open. Never seen or heard from for rest of holiday.
Day or two later steam from unvented bathroom set off smoke alarm. Building evacuated and maintenance guy from other flat dealt with fire board and telephoned alarm company. So glad he was there, shocked windows not opening!
Informed Newquay Holiday Rentals on return from holiday, received initial reply but 8 days later no further promised communication from them, thus this review.
Flat stated as pet free but manual in flat acknowledges pets allowed. If known pet free in past would not have booked.
Location is good 20 min walk to town with fantastic views but let down by basic cleanliness issues and poor maintenance.
If booked get assurances flat is cleaned to high standard and balcony furniture won't cut you with rust. Or maybe go somewhere else.
