This will be a short review as the other reviews pretty much say what i experienced. First and foremost this is a great hostel catering for stag and hen parties. If you are on your honeymoon or treating the Mrs to a few days away you dont book in here! We were a group of 23 staying in this 130 odd capacity hostel. As soon as we arrived Gerry put on the music and opened the bar. The bar was then open until we left 3 days later! Gerry is a nice bloke with a nice friendly team. The rooms are no nonsense, clean and functional - that is what we wanted - nothing to break means no lost deposits! Close to town - great breakfast - reasonable booze range and prices and thats all you need from it! I would stay here again for sure if i was in Newquay on another stag do...cheers Gerry and the team!

Brilliant Stag and Hen Weekend Venue!!!

Just back from my brothers stag weekend with 13 other comrades. Foreseeing the antics, costumes and heavy drinking ahead I was apprehensive about finding a suitable basecamp for our group. Off the back of previous experiences on similar weekends we all surprised to have found the best and most appropriate, issue free stag accommodation any of us had stayed in.

All staff were awesome, especially the manager and host Gerry who was supper friendly and conscientious, offering a comprehensive 5* service at B&B prices! Our room was basic and clean (on arrival :) ), food was top quality and the more importantly the bar and music was on and available round the clock.

If you are looking for budget accommodation look no further than The Escape in Newquay. Great location (5mins walk from town centre), clean and modern, awesome vibe, amazing staff esp Tim who kept the bar open till 4:30 then back up for breakfast! Gerry the owner is a star really helpful happy down to earth guy! Don't forget it is budget accommodation but for £25 a night you can't go wrong.

We stayed for 2 nights for a hen do over the Easter bank holiday and had a great time! They accommodated 20 of us in a room of 14 and a room of 6. They looked after us really well, especially as we were the only group of girls in a sea of stag dos. Don't expect anything luxurious as it is a surf lodge/hostel but the manager Gerry is really really friendly and goes out of his way to help you with whatever you need. If you do stay I would recommend the the Thai food in the restaurant as it was amazing!!

Firstly I hate to leave a bad review for anywhere so I write this reluctantly. A group of 12 of us stayed here for a stag party for 2 nights at the beginning of April. It is ideally set up for hen and stag parties which is good. We had a 14 bed dorm with a bizarre en suite which consisted of a toilet and 2 showers facing each other. I cant really see anybody would like to have a shower facing another person a few feet away from them. None of our group liked that idea but there didn't seem to be any other communal showers to use so we had to wait for each other to finish. They had a nice bar set up but this seemed to be the only communal area. Most hostels I stayed at in the past have kitchen facilities but we didn't see any and had to pay for tea and coffee which seems a bit mean. We had breakfast both days that was served by the owner Gerry who was really friendly and welcoming and the food was pretty good. On the Saturday we were waiting in the bar watching a rugby game and we asked could we switch it over to the Grand National when it came on about an hour later. There was nobody else in the bar and the barman said it shouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately for some reason all the tv was live streaming so he couldn't bet it on so we had to all gather around to watch it on a phone which sort of ruined the race for us.

Up until then everything was fine. Then 2 members of staff returned from what seemed like a fishing trip. There was a Hungarian chef and another younger member of staff showing us 2 crabs they had caught. None of us seemed interested in this but they proceeded to put them in the middle of the bar in front of us. None of us have a fishing background so we assumed they were dead until the tall dark haired guy started poking them and to our astonishment they started moving. The guy continued to poke them and then and got a few young children out from the office area to show them this. None of us said anything at the time but over dinner that night everybody was talking about it. Don't get me wrong we are not a group of animal rights activists or anything and we all eat meat/fish but surely this cruelty to a poor animal should not be done by any right minded individuals. The tall guy then started taking "selfies" with it and after that everyone suggested we go to the Irish Bar down the street even though we had planned to stay there until 7pm when we had a restaurant booked.

The place is in good order and the other staff especially the barman was really friendly. The owner seemed really nice as well but I would suggest he takes more care when recruiting staff as the two guys with the crab were solely responsible for us not having a more enjoyable weekend.

Hi James
I was sorry to hear what happened in the bar with the crab in our defence the hungarian chef is actually the maintainence guy and he really does a fantastic job but i did give him a good talking to about this since then he rarely even goes in the bar when we are busy at the weekends the other guy was a guest who was staying here for 2 weeks who the hungarian had got friendly with. most of the guests we have really love the escape the food and the vibe is normally really good but maybe the magic wasn't there that weekend and for that i can only deeply apoligise.
