“Eat your heart out Rick Stein!”
Reviewed 26 August 2014

We have been here five times now this summer and the seafood is quite superb. Its also extremely good value compared to the South Coast where we live. This is the only place in the UK where I have ever seen fresh Crawfish and it was truly memorable - much easier to eat than lobster and worth every penny. I really like the delicious cream sauce that they cook the harbour fruit de mer in as it makes the crab claws so tasty. Hake is also nicely cooked and served with fresh vegetables. Lobster and prawn starter is huge.
Personally, we always find the staff and the owner to be very pleasant and extremely hard working, so we always thank them and leave a decent tip at the counter! Its a very busy restaurant in a fantastic location on the harbourside beach and I am sure that they get their share of idiots in the season. Come here for fresh, natural, seafood served beside the lapping waters. Please keep up the good work and looking forward to our next visit!

“Unbelievable!!!!!”
Reviewed 25 August 2014 via mobile

Location left us breathless. The restaurant is situated right on a sandy beach in the small fishing harbour in Newquay. Outstanding fresh seafood straight off the boats just a few meters away and lovely friendly staff.
The owner is a little dishevelled and seemed a little out of it but we thought that part of the rustic Cornish charm of this magical place.

“Love seafood”
Reviewed 25 August 2014 via mobile

It was a rainy evening and I and my partner couldn't find a restaurant:all fully booked!
Still surprised,we went down to the harbour and asked for a table at The Boathouse.
They set us down advising us the won't be able to take the order till half an hour later.
The restaurant was really busy but we had a drink and a nice basket of fresh bread & olive oil & balsamic vinegar to start with.

As they said,at the right time we did order a pasta with crab & lobster to share.
It was fresh fish but I would have salted the pasta in the cooking ;))
Then an half fruit the mer portion which was huge!
Lobster, crab, mackerels and mussels !!! Amazingly tasty

We ended with a lemon zest dessert.
Having lobster and crab for dinner, makes your bill heavier (75£) but the food was fresh and the staff wasn't so bad as someone else said.
Overall a good experience :)

“Close to breaking Trades Description Act”

Ordered lobster and prawn salad. Came with no bread and a thin slice of lobster one inch square placed carefully on top of prawns in sauce on a bed of lettuce. I ask for bread but at £12.95 I feel this is the most expensive prawn salad I have had

“Have a dietary requirement? Avoid.”
Reviewed 20 August 2014 via mobile

First time we have tried and very impressed- location, views, and atmosphere could not be faulted. The menu reads very well and all dishes ate as well as described, the price fairly representing the quality.
There was four of us at the table and two adored the restaurant, readily saying it was the best meal of the week.
For me there was one criticism and one problem.
The criticism was the toilets are way below spec of the restaurant.
The problem was with the staff. My partner needs a gluten free meal- not a choice she makes to be awkward or inconvenient. Asking if the sea food sauce was gluten free- we were told it's just mayo and ketchup, but could you tell us if it is gluten free? ( ie does the mayo contain wheat starch ) seemed we were asking too much and resulted in a theatrical flounce over telling us it has no flour in sight. Must admit I took from this attitude that they either didn't care or were incompetent in customer requirements. Also might I add this did not appear to be waiting staff but a manager or more likely owner.
Had a simple request met with a simple answer then the whole experience would be worth a revisit. But avoid if you have any dietary requirements and you need to know ingredient information.
