“Nice guest house”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 August 2013

The owners didn't make us feel very welcome on arrival, but the rooms were beautifully decorated and of a high standard which took the edge of the poor welcome.

They offer a complementary continental breakfast which you prepare yourself which was okay but could have been a lot better.
I felt the house and rooms though beautiful lacked personality and atmosphere.

I felt it was an expensive experience and I could definitely get more value for money else where.

A great deal of time and care is taken to ensure our rooms are perfect for guests arrival, hence our check in time of 3pm or later, arriving well before this and being politely asked to return after 3pm may have had some influence, generally peoples view of value, atmosphere, personality vary widely.
Luckily most of our guests being well seasoned travelers, not only return but appreciate what we offer.

This was our second time staying at the Higher Faugan and this time was as impressive as the first. It is very clean, well laid out; quiet and the rooms are done to a high standard. While there is no restaurant on site, none is needed. We booked two full size suites which has a kitchen and everything needed to make breakfast in the morning including bread, coffee, tea, butter, jam, fresh fruits, a bottle of quality orange juice, selection of cereals and a microwave. The bed has a memory foam mattress and is it comfortable, the pillow are fantastic, no fighting with them to find a good position for your head. Doug Jasse the friendly owner suggested great places to eat and visit. My mother-in-law was so impressed that she wants to book here for a week next year in celebration of her 80th birthday. The bathroom is well laid out the powerful shower, towel warmer and you are supplied with face cloths, something even the large 5 stars don't give you. The location is close to Lands End and the Minack Theatre, great location to based yourself and explore this beautiful part of Cornwall.

Room Tip: The suites on the ground floor has easy access.

We stayed in Higher Faugan for three nights. From the beginning till the very end Higher Faugan makes you feel at home (or even better!). First of all, the host – Doug is always willing to help, shows you the room giving you a lot of details of the history of the house and thoroughly tells you how everything works. Then he is always open to have a nice chat and is very kind at all times.
The house itself is very spacious, well taken care of and with nice and tasteful décor.

Our king room was just lovely (I guess we need to thank Mrs Jasse!), larger than expected, clean, with a big and very comfy bed, functional furniture and simply – with everything that you need (including a hairdryer!). There is a large window from which you get a view of the garden and sea - you can even spot St Michael’s Mount! The bathroom is good size and very clean. The shower is powerful – you can have bath If you like. Worth mentioning is the fact that as we popped into other rooms, they were as good and spacious as ours!

As you walk through the door, you already have breakfast ready for next day which is a great idea, as you wake up and can have breakfast in bed without any hassle and any time you want. The breakfast is varied and you will realise that it keeps you going for a looong time. Also it is so big (apart from tea/coffee, you get 6 slices of bread, jam, marmalade, 750ml orange juice, milk, 4 cereal portions, grapes, bananas, apples, croissants/hot cross buns , two yoghurts) that you can actually take half of it with you for lunch!). There is cutlery and crockery (even wine glasses, a coffee machine and toaster!). I think one breakfast would easily make three breakfasts, but it was great to have a wide choice.

In terms of the location, it is absolutely brilliant when you have a car, so tranquil and quiet. Also, it is very close to all the landmarks and must-see spots in Cornwall – Mousehole, Penzance, Sennen Cove, Minack Theatre, Porthcurno, Land’s End, St Ives and the Lizard.

We have stayed several times at Higher Faugan House it is always very enjoyable. What a treat to stay in a beautiful country house hotel by the sea, very near to some of the best things available in that area such as St Michael's mount, Mousehole, Porth Curno and the Minnack Theatre. It is a lovely house and was originally the home of artist Stanhope Forbes. The rooms have been beautifully designed for the very best comfort of the guests, everything has been thought of for your comfort. Most wonderful comfortable beds we had the best nights sleep and fantastic views across Mounts Bay to St Michael's mount.
Highly recommended, wonderful.

This was recommended by a friend after I was struggling to find any availability in or close to St Ives, and it turned out to be a very good recommendation. Lovely sized rooms, beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. I popped by head round the door of another room that was vacant and beautifully individual whilst making full use of the space. Lovely array of painting around the house.
I rather enjoyed the 'already in room' breakfast concept of a healthy breakfast that was continental in style that you eat at a time that suits you. Top quality products and replaced daily.
Doug was the perfect host, knowledge ready for you to tap into if you needed it, but more than happy to stay in the background if you already knew your plans.

We heartily recommend Higher Faugan Parc. Fantastic location in Newlyn, a beautiful fishing village, close to Penzance, a bigger town with a great shopping centre. The accommodation is faultless. We had a suite which was huge, beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean and warm, quiet & comfortable. Everything you could ever need. We also really enjoyed the breakfast provided in our suite, inc. fresh bread, croissants, buns, cereals, yoghurts, fruit, juices - you name it, it was there! If we had wanted, we could have easily cooked eggs etc. Doug was charming and helpful, a real gent. We were only there 3 nights, but we wish it had been longer. Thank you.

What a wonderful place! Peaceful, quiet, very comfortable. Lovely stocked kitchen area so that you can help yourself to breakfast on your own. Doug is very helpful and knowledgeable. Can't wait to return to this place.
