“Great pub, poor dessert.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 June 2014 via mobile

We were staying only a few doors down so made this our local over the Admiral Benbow. Its self proclaimed to be the oldest pub in Penzance. It's a great old fashioned pub rumoured to have underground tunnels leading to the beach which smugglers used, it was a shame the pub don't make this an attraction as there were no clues as to where it was. The rear garden is beautiful with red Chinese lanterns hanging in the corner. We only had dessert here but we felt let down, it was just knocked together very quickly, the coconut ice cream was too frozen and chewy.

“Good atmosphere and pub grub”

Great old building. The staff was welcoming, there was a good selection of ales, and the menu was good pub grub.

“Great character pub.”

lovely old pub serving real ales. Ask about the history which is lots. The bar tilts downwards which is quiet funny when you put your glass on this...well worth a visit.

“Great little pub, oldest in Penzance”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 June 2014

Quintessential British pub - small, cosy, low ceilings, beams, etc. Good food (especially the chips), friendly service. Do book - we saw people turned away at 7pm on a Wednesday night in shoulder season.
