Owner description: Inspiring sea safari sailing trips aboard a ten metre catamaran, with the winners of the 2013 Responsible World Whale Watch Awards . A voyage on "Shearwater II" gives you the best opportunity to find the marine wildlife of south west Cornwall, including seals, porpoises, seabirds, dolphins, basking sharks and whales. All trips are fully guided with experienced and entertaining guides, who are trained educators. Shearwater II takes just 12 passengers and 2 crew, so you get a great view of the wildlife and the views without having to peer over other people. Please call or email to enquire. Fully licenced and insured NB please remember that sightings of specific species cannot be guaranteed and that we advertise this fact widely. Therefore the most useful and accurate reviews of our company rate us on the factors we can directly control e.g. customer service, politeness, ease of booking, quality of welcome and so on, rather than whether the reviewer saw the exact species they wanted. Marine Discovery is shut between November and March due to weather constraints and winter maintenance. If in doubt, call to check.

First visit to Penzance and first time I felt inclined to post a comment on Tripadvisor. Marine Discovery was everything we had hoped for. It is run by a delightful and very knowledgeable couple with high ideals. We were lucky with our sightings, but were pleased that they never chase or intimidate the animals they clearly love. Would certainly do the trip again if in the area, as one other couple regularly do. Thanks Hannah and Duncan for a great experience.

Fantastic few hours cruising the South Cornish coastline. Beautiful scenery, creatures, and great hosts!
Kids really enjoyed themselves.
I would recommend this trip to all my guests at the holiday cottage. The flyer is already in our welcome pack!
Not great if you have mobility issues because of access restrictions to boat.

Thank Chris S

If you are ever in West Cornwall you really need to go out on a trip with Marine Discovery Penzance. I was lucky enough to be the only person on a trip out on a late autumn day last year and I can't recommend it enough. Duncan and Hannah are charming, friendly and very knowledgable about the animals that live in and around the sea off Penzance. Shearwater II is an amazing vessel that zips across the water, under sail for some of the time, and gives you great views of dolphins, porpoises, seals and seabirds.

I was lucky enough to get fabulous views of dolphins really close by (which can't be guaranteed of course) and I was very comfortable that Duncan and Hannah always put the needs and safety of the wildlife first which is very important to me.

If I lived nearer (instead of in London) I'd be out with them every week, as it is I follow them on Facebook and smile whenever I remember my all too short time out with them.

Us 4 sixty something “teenagers” took to the water in the late afternoon, one and a half hour bay trip which (given we had just picked the best weekend of the year so far) was stress free / relaxing and very well organised. We may have only seen a few bobbing seal heads and a number of barrel jelly fish, but when under sail it was just out of this world! Duncan & Hannah great crew and Catamaran, the trip set us up for our evening meal with a few extra glasses of wine.

We want, albeit for basking sharks which we didn't see, but we had an incredible time!

Dolphins, porpoises, sunfish, birds, so much wildlife!

Amazing crew, so friendly and helpful, we learnt a thing or two about Cornwall's sea life, the environment and local history. It was a fantastic trip, will do it EVERY time we are in Cornwall.

Thanks guys, you are great!

Hi and thanks for the review, goodness that trip was a while back! Shame you couldn't swap with the people who wanted to see porpoises, dolphins and sunfish! This was back in the early summer when there were no basking sharks around. Later in summer 2013 during July and August, we saw loads of them. The best thing for people who want to see a certain species to do, is to keep an eye on our Sightings blog on the website, which details what we have seen and when. Species are certainly seasonal, but you cannot pinpoint exactly when they will arrive, nor how long they will stick around.
