We booked a 4 night stay here when we went to Cornwall to see friends living in Penzance, following the good reviews on Trip Advisor. As we had our dog with us we booked The Apartment, a lovely room attached to the hotel with its own entrance. It consisted of a bedroom, bathroom an a living room with a kitchenette. It was very clean and comfortable and beautifully decorated. My only criticism is that the shower stall was rather small and the bathroom looked a bit dated. On arrival we were greeted by a member of staff and shown the location of the hotels public rooms. We were then left to settle in, before going to the drawing room for tea and homemade cake (apple and cinamon with walnuts which was yummy). Breakfast the next morning was hot and freshly cooked. We had the Abbey breakfast but a wide choice of other options were on the menu and hot croissants accompanied the toast. Large fires were blazing in the public rooms which made it very cosy.
Access to the hotel is up a slipway near the harbour or you can drive round the towns one way system. Parking is available for about 6 cars at the back of the hotel provided guests park properly. The hotel is within walking distance of several nice pubs and Penzance town centre. Altogether it's a fabulous hotel and we will definitely be back next December.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- The Abbey Hotel is a rare gem, a hotel that refuses to enter the modern world, choosing instead to linger in its serenely elegant past. The feel is of a smart country house, and the drawing room – roaring fire, huge gilt mirror, walls of books, rugs on stripped floors – is hard to beat. ... more less
