Really enjoyed our visit to this delightful museum/art gallery. I didn't know anything about the Newlyn artists. The current exhibition contains about 70 pictures by Samuel James 'Lamorna' Birch. Loved his work. The museum is small but extremely interesting, covering much of the history and archeology of the Penzance area through the ages. The cafe is also excellent.

I give this gallery 5 stars despite it being a 'change over' time of paintings and the groundfloor being unavailable today.
The upper floor was well worth a visit, such a calming space, could spend ages just absorbing close up and across the room, these wonderful works of art.
Desk staff downstairs very helpful, although the steward lady upstairs made it known that she couldn't bear the sight of all those dead fish after a catch in one of the paintings, she actually shuddered! Shows you how realistic these paintings are!

We just had to visit again while we were in Penzance, it is such a lovely building and the surrounding gardens are very well kept.

The paintings in the gallery were impressive and we enjoyed the works by painters of the Newlyn School of Art.

Penlee House Gallery & Museum is definitely worth a visit and there is a lift for people with walking difficulties.

We visited this gallery a few years ago and I had it on my list of "must do's" There seemed to be far fewer paintings on display this time round......there were postcards to purchase but both the ones I wanted were either soldout or unavailable, all in all a bit of a disappointment and expensive.

Thank you for your review. Our admission price is £4 for concessions, including people over 60, and £5 for adults, which most of our visitors have told us is good value for money compared with similar attractions in Cornwall. Children are free. The current exhibition, 'Bringing Home the Catch: Art & Fishing in Newlyn 1880 to 1940' features as many paintings as usual (at least 70 paintings are on display). We did include a selection of historic Victorian photographs, alongside the paintings, as well as social history artefacts such as the boat models and copperwork, which most people appear to have enjoyed.

We endeavour to have a good range of Newlyn School postcards. If there is a postcard that you would like to see, please do not hesitate to ask our shop staff.

Best wishes

Louise
