We visited the Fat Fish Cafe after wondering Wharf Road for a while we decided that it looked the nicest café.

We were greeted with a huge, friendly welcome and a really bubbly atmosphere even though there was only one other person in the cafe it didn't feel empty, they left shortly after smiling and talking about the food.
We ordered our food and were happy with the time we waited for it. The food unfortunately didn't taste that amazing and the chips were over cooked and were hard fatty blocks. The staff then all seemed to vanish into the kitchen and were not seen for the entire duration of our meal leaving us alone in the cafe, we felt alone and as if we had over stayed our welcome. In total me and my fiancé paid roughly £18 and it tasted about £10.

It was a real shame as it looks like it could have a lot of potential.

We were quite disappointed in the fish and chips at the fat fish after reading reviews here. The skin is on the fish (acceptable of course) and I've tasted fresher haddock (not so acceptable for a place on the harbour!). The take away on the prom next to the amusements (the coffee pot) is infinitely better - drive the extra mile.

Went in for a bite to eat while in Penzance, looks attractive and clean, went straight to bar ordered drinks and food. 10 minutes later our drinks ( a tea and a cappuccino) came. Coffee was terrible, milky, more of a latte. Food came 5 minutes or so later brought by the cook because the waiter was too busy to seeing to other people.
Food wasn't bad, fresh piece of cod, strange coloured chips though, very yellow, guess that's from the oil the use (prep xl???) ate food, paid and left, felt it was a bit expensive at £20 for what we had, won't go back in a hurry, need to pull their socks up if they want to survive. Times are too hard to rely on one off customers, potential is there, but unless something is done I'm afraid this will be another eatery struggling to make it into next year.

We were pleasantly surprised by the variety and freshness of the food on offer. Portion sizes were good, as was the range of fresh fish and vegetarian food on offer. We enjoyed chosing from the wide variety of tapas on offer. Service was friendly but would advise booking as they only have limited seating.

My wife and I sat outside the Fat Fish cafe for a good 5mins before I went to go and get a menu. 15mins later, someone took our order. We were patient as we had our 5 month old daughter with us who needed feeding, plus the effort to 'make camp' with all baby bits means you are less inclined to just do the off. In that 20 mins though, we saw at least 3 couples ignored who upped and took their money elsewhere, and another 2 who also went on the hunt for their own menus. One chap walked in to find 2 of the waitresses playing about on their mobile phones?!

When our food and drinks came, they were good. Good haddock and chips and a very sizeable portion of Newlyn crab in the sandwich.

We couldn't fault the value or quality of what we ordered but more attention to customer service is needed. There was one dark haired young waitress who was very attentive but clearly struggling to do it all on her own.

Great location, local ingredients, but up the service!

Limited clarity and segregation between fat fish cafe and the fish and chip shop next door.
