“Nepalese and Indian Cuisine !!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 June 2012

Been visiting the Taj Mahal for as long as we have been coming to Cornwall for our holidays. Not found another curry restaurant the same. Always very busy and need to book. The restaurant has improved both with its service and food. The service this time was very quick the staff attentive and friendly and the food came out in good time !!!!

“Excellent Nepalese Food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2012

Visited for an evening meal and had a great tasting meal. Food tasted really fresh and tasty. Also as a vegetarian the choices offered were very varied. I had a Aloo Tama which was unusual but tasted great. The best dish was the starter the House Special Momo - little dumplings that were amazing. The service was great and the staff were very helpful.

“Superb food with a modern twist”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 May 2012

After several recommendations we decided to give the Penzance Taj Mahal a try. Despite the old fashioned curry house name, the food on offer was a refreshing twist on old favourites coupled with some new exciting dishes.

Between our party of 4 we shared, Lamb Tikka, Mushroom delight & Lamb Momo dumplings - all dishes were accompanied by fresh salad with various chutneys & sauces which were a revelation, a far cry from the standard Bangla style usually served up around the country. Each chutney had its own distinct & original taste, whilst I'm not a great fan of cardamon, even here the combination with what tasted like orange was superb.

Main dishes were of a high standard too, we chose selection of the old & new for comparison Lamb Pathia (Patiya), Lamb Rogon Josh & Chicken jaysalamer & Taj Mis Mass. The Pathia for me personally was a fantastic dish, slightly lighter sauce but with a great balance between the sweet/sour & chili but with a beautiful smokey tang too. The Taj Mis mass was the first dish we've ever had in an Indian restaurant to feature red wine, despite an initial wariness this actually works well & I would definitely recommend trying it.

All dishes were fresh & well seasoned & NOT swimming in ghee like some dishes of this style & looked really great - portion size was good too & had 4 blokes stuffed to the gills by the end of the meal.

A Nepalese lager was a nice accompaniment too, looked like it was a brewed under license beer but tasted very nice & bottles were cold straight from the fridge.

Great service & fair prices mean a well deserved 5 stars & a nice alternative to the usual curry house fare.
