Following a memorial service for Trafalgar Day at Madron village church we booked lunch for two in the hotel restaurant. The menu offered a good selection and the food was very agreeable. Two observations that I would make though are firstly the serving of three root vegetables with the main course, some green vegetables would have been a better balance and welcomed. Secondly, the table surface is very unforgiving and my dinner plate kept rocking every time I used my knife and fork until using some leaflets as a place mat. Ironically the diners at the neighbouring table were experiencing the same problem. A small thing but irritating. Neither of these things would deter us from returning though!

Superb Edwardian pair of houses converted into superior hotel with fantastic sea and harbour views.
From the moment we arrived for a two day stay as part of a longer tour of Cornwall we knew we were in for a treat. We were greeted at reception and invited into a drawing room for afternoon tea and sweetmeats - all complimentary and available for guests every day between 3-5pm.
Our room on the second floor was luxurious if a bit of a trek and the bed like floating on a heavenly cloud.
It is apparent that the owners have a great eye for detail and there are many aspects to the hotel Penzance that delight the eye and the senses - such a relief from homogenous modern hotels. This one has character and individuality and is a stylish blend of old and new. The outside terrace where you can have a drink or coffee - and we did both even in October - has a real continental flavour like the Italian Lakes. The restaurant is stylish and light with great views.
We had the standard menu one night and a tasting menu for four the following night when two friends joined us for a birthday treat. On both occasions the food was faultless and delicious and the service friendly, impeccable and all the staff knew about the food and wine when asked and did so with enthusiasm. Next morning breakfast was also of a high order and as I was slightly jaded by cooked breakfasts bu this stage I enjoyed smoked haddock and poached eggs and eggs benedict another day by way of a change. Utterly delicious.
We were loathe to leave and may return. What a good base for a trip to the Scilly Isles.

We had six nights here in September, weather wasn't great all the time so we couldn't make the most of the hotel's pool or veranda but we had a lovely time. The hosts, in particular Sue, were interested and helpful and the restaurant wonderful. Even if you can't dine in of an evening, which we would heartily recommend -superb - even the breakfasts both in choice and quality were top notch. Our room on the second floor had two windows facing two different, but equally stunning views - St Michael's Mount in one direction and Penzance Harbour in the other. The room itself was well appointed, spacious and comfortable too. A lovely touch, and most welcome after a busy day of sight seeing, was the complimentary afternoon tea which helped to recharge batteries somewhat! A great hotel and we will certainly use it again.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room - the views are superlative!

We stayed for two nights at the end of September with friends in Superior Doubles which had outstanding views across Mounts Bay and Penzance Harbour. On arrival we were warmly welcomed, given a tour of the hotel's facilities, had our bags carried to our room all of which got us off to a very good start. The room had everything you would expect for a Superior room plenty of space , large comfortable bed , good size TV and nicely appointed bathroom. We had our anniversary dinner in the Bay Restaurant on the second night with four friends. We were greeted by a charming and attentive restaurant manager and given a complimentary Bucks Fizz. The meal was excellent and the service couldn't have been more friendly and efficient, it was an evening to remember. It is difficult to find fault with this hotel however I would much prefer not to have to make my own toast at breakfast!

Room Tip: Get a room with a sea view.

What a gem. The walk up the hill was worth it as we found this excellent hotel. The room was superb, with a coffee making machine which was a classy touch. The large red chair that was by the window was fabulous. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
Afternoon tea upon arrival was an unexpected treat.
The bathroom was excellent with the largest bath!
A great spot to relax.

Hotel staff were very friendly and efficent, and the setting/location excellant.
However I felt the room was very over priced as it was a small double with a wardrobe for hanging but no drawers or shelves for the rest of the cloths.
Cocktail hour all though resonably priced was definatly the worst Mojito ever, lacking mint, and alcohol, which explained the two for one price.
But by far the biggest disapointment was the breakfast, the plus was that we could breakfast at leisure until 11.00 on Sunday. I asked for 2 poached eggs with the farmhouse breakfast, and recieved 1 hard poached egg, one rasher of lightly cooked bacon, 1 sausage, pre-cooked, 1 mushroom, half an egg and some dry beans., my wife asked for the omlete with mushrooms on the side, and although the omlete was nice she only had 1 mushroom..
Sorry to say I will not return, £257 for the night with drinks for us and 2 friends, (cocktail hour, one round and a night cap for 2) not good value

As this was our second stay in the hotel we were looking forward to meeting the resident cats-now
alas only one. On our arrival we were given a warm welcome and shown the geography of the hotel
and taken to our room which by a lucky chance was the same one we had occupied before with
views over the harbour and St Michael's Mount. As before breakfasts and evening meals were
delicious and served expertly by smiling welcoming staff. We also appreciated the complementary
afternoon tea. Without exception all the staff were expert, helpful and smiling and were a credit to
the hotel.

Room Tip: We were lucky to have an excellent view over the harbour and of St Michael's Mount from the bat...
