“Fish and chips”

Top notch fish and chips, beer was fine. Service friendly and efficient. The old place used to be a house of ill repute years ago according to the lady that served us.

“Crammed full of character.”
Reviewed 12 August 2014 via mobile

We have had a delightful meal at the Admiral Benbow. The establishment is full of character and we were seated at the rear of the building in the section that looks like the inside of a boat. The meals were generously portioned and the fish was cooked to perfection. It felt however at times as though the waiting staff were not too sure as to what was going on. Several times we were asked if we wanted drinks, (we had ordered already with another member of staff) and we also overheard a waitress asks another couple of diners whether they had ordered one or two deserts, however the staff were very charming and helpful. The meals did take some time to come out, however this is due to the fact that it it is all freshly cooked. This is a novel place to eat and should be seen even if not dining.

“Good pub food”
Reviewed 12 August 2014

Dropped in about 6pm for an evening meal & even then it was very busy. Staff were very helpful & found us a table. Food was very good and despite the constant stream of new customers coming in, we never felt rushed & could relax & enjoy the food & atmosphere.

“Good hearty food”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

We had an evening meal here while we were on holiday and really enjoyed it. The place itself is like a tardis - I expected a tiny little pub and when we walked through there just seemed to be room after room after room!
It was very busy but they managed to find us a table (make sure you ask someone to seat you, there is a sign saying this but a few people didn't read it and it caused a bit of confusion for them). We had good table-service throughout the evening and had lovely meals. There didn't seem to be many staff on given the amount of people in the pub but they did a great job and got everyone fed and watered asap!
When we got our bill at the end of the evening they'd made a mistake and charged us for too many drinks - this was the only time really when it felt like we were waiting a long time for someone to speak to about it but once someone came over it was soon sorted with no problems.
Overall we had a good meal here and would definitely go again.

“Yo, ho, ho!”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

Fabulous find. Very close to our hotel. Quirky pub with a multitude of nooks and crannies with private little areas to sit in. Pub area very busy. Very friendly, amiable staff. The restaurant was just like a galleon. Food was very good - didn't have to wait long. Such a warm, cosy place for a meal. Will definitely eat there again.
