Owner description: Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens is a major new attraction in West Cornwall which opened mid September 2012. In a beautiful sheltered valley, the woods, stream and dramatic vistas provide a perfect setting for large scale exotic and sub-tropical planting. Interwoven with this there is also an evolving programme of high quality contemporary art installations. Inspirational....contemplative... a joy to visit... Dramatic landscape and planting provide the backdrop to contemplative but inspirational artworks. Internationally renowned artists, such as James Turrell and David Nash have interacted with the garden to create site specific permanent work which harmonise with the setting. The land also provides a forum for ever changing temporary, or even ephemeral arts in all its forms. Ticket Prices: Standard Adult : £8.00 Concessions: £6.50 11 - 15 Years: £4.50 Under 11: Free Family Ticket (Two Adults and Two 11 - 15 Years): £20.00 Season Ticket: £30.00 Opening Times: Daily, 10am - 5pm

“Great gardens”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 June 2014 via mobile

The garden is nicely laid out with several different aspects culminating in the views over st. Michaels mount at the top of the hill.

The plants could do with labels so that I knew what I was looking at, hence 4 stars not 5.

“A newly-discovered haven”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2014

Peaceful and obviously created with care; the gardens are well cared for and the sculptures are growing in number and are all intriguing. The site is easily accessible with some hilly corners; perfect in early Spring. Views to Mounts Bay appear round many corners. The building houses a café which is pleasant and the newly-established plant shop is sure to go from strength to strength. Good luck with this new venture - Cornwall needs more like you!

“A great place to visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 May 2014

This is a place of exceptional vision and we cannot recommend it too highly. If, like us, you enjoy views, gardens, a woodland walk, empathetic sculptures and installations as well as a relatively inexpensive cafe you will find it both relaxing and inspiring. Very good value for a modest charge and not too difficult to find compared with other west Cornwall gardens. It's going to be top of our to-do list next time we visit the area, which is saying a lot.

“Glorious place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 May 2014

This is truly a great place to visit. First off, no car park charges which in itself is unusual. Entrance to the gardens is very cheap, certainly by comparison with National Trust gardens and Kew - £11.50 for the two of us. The shop and cafe can be visited without going into the gardens - and both are worth going to. The shop has a small selection, ranging from cards and lip balms through to prints, rugs and lamps. All are slightly unusual and from local craftspeople. The cafe - well, it's amazing. All incredibly freah and well cooked. We had the roast beef (we went on a Sunday) and it was possibly the best roast dinner I've had. The beef was succulent, veg were lovely and delicately spiced and the yorkshire pud rose like a dream above the plate. As for the chocolate brownie and the orange and almond tart....bliss.
The gardens are glorious. They are clearly, in a few areas, a work in progress but this is so minimal by comparison with most of it, there is no loss to the sheer pleasure to be had. Lots of hidden sculptures, I loved the Tibetan prayer flags, and it's a toss up between the James Turrell and the camera obscura as to which gets my gold star. Both probably - or perhaps it is the views from the top of the gardens...or the sounds of water which follow you around...or the unusual plants and the simplicity of their planting...I love this place, its setting and the whole ethos of it. All the people working there were great too, really friendly and helpful.
Oh, there's also a nursery from which you can buy some quite unusual plants. I think this also is a new piece of work, so I can't wait to come back.
