We have stayed at Mount Royal for the past seven years which speaks for itself. Tom and his lovely wife are delightful hosts where everything is done to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. The breakfast menu is second to none. We have booked again for next year in this wonderful period property.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with panoramic sea view.

This was our first trip to Cornwall and the Mount Royal matched up to what we had seen on Trip Advisor when choosing a hotel. Family run hotel now being run by Tom and Melinda who are the third generation. We were greeted by John, Tom's Dad, who showed us to our room, it had the wow factor about it as soon as we walked into the room. It was a big room, the views of the sea and St Michaels Mount were amazing. The room had some nice special touches in it which included fresh flowers, a box of tissues and binoculars. Breakfast was outstanding, fresh fruit, yoghurt and cereals or a cooked breakfast. We had cooked breakfasts and it kept us going until at least 4 o'clock. We will be going back again, throughly recommend this hotel.

Stay at this B&B was undoubtedly one of the most wonderful experience in abroad for me. Beautifully decorated rooms and furnishings, most friendly staff I have ever met, and splendid view of Mount bay. I was right about selecting Cornwall and this B&B at the end of my travel across England. Cornwall is an attractive place to visit. I do not know how to describe the serene hours when I sat in my room in this B&B looking out the ocean. Special thanks to Thomas.

Room Tip: Do not miss a room facing ocean!

Mount Royal has really lived up to our expectation. Very good location for exploring Cornwall...
The interior is kept in a very traditional design, cozy, spacious and very clean. Breakfast and service are excellent. We arrived late and were even served a lovely light dinner in our room, which is not normally provided! The staff are extremely kind and attentive, no effort spared. Thank you for providing my mum and me with an unforgettable stay in Cornwall !

Room Tip: We stayed in room 1, facing out the back so no seaview but no noise of the busy road either :)

We had a lovely stay at the Mount Royal. The service was outstanding (thanks, Tom!) and the view from our window was fantastic. We were looking out over the bay towards St Michaels Mount and the hotel supplies binoculars for looking out for wildlife, including dolphins. We weren't lucky enough to see any dolphins, but enjoyed watching some of the dinghy races on a couple of evenings.
The room was very large which was great, although we felt that it could have been made a little more 'homely' by the addition of pictures on the wall. Breakfast was lovely and Tom was very helpful when we asked about some of the attractions we were thinking of visiting.
Having parking on-site was very good. We both enjoyed our stay and would recommend the Mount Royal.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights this August. It is a nice place, but a bit too old fashioned for us (young couple). Everything - decoration wise - feels like it has been there since 1960. The room and bathroom were both clean though. Tiny shower, tiny basin, no window / good airing in bathroom.
We are a very lively couple, loving to have fun, and this place wasn't like that at all. I don't know how we ended up booking here but anyway, it is not a regret that's for sure, only we wouldn't recommend it for people that like things that we do.
I think this B&B should purposely advertise itself as a "heritage" etc B&B for elderly couples. At the time of our stay it was only couples much older than us and I'm sure they all had a fantastic time.
Breakfast is actually brilliant, we could tell it was freshly made indeed!
The room itself was nice, bed very comfy, but it was a bit too noisy with all the traffic on the big main road just outside the building. Double glazing would not hurt. Penzance itself is ugly and there is not much to see at all, but it is a good place to stay at if you want to discover the most of Southern Cornwall. The B&B is located a few minutes walk from Penzance town centre.
Free wi-fi was very handy for us.
They only accept cash or cheque payments, no cards at all.

We are surprised by the rather negative title of your review given the fact you awarded us 4 out of 5.

We are an AA 4 star accredited establishment and all of our facilities have been annually inspected, approved and commended by an AA inspectorate as part of the national quality scheme for hotels and bed and breakfasts.

We have guests of all ages who stay at Mount Royal (including many young married couples) and many love the interior and more relaxing peaceful atmosphere coupled with our spectacular sea views, convenient location and our private on-site parking. There is much to see and do in the immediate area - including the beach right in front of the property!!

Mount Royal is a period property (part Georgian (c1820) and part Victorian and the decor is intentionally chosen to reflect the regency era - with classical nineteenth century designed William Morris and Sanderson wallpapers. It is not 1960's decor. Moreover, the house is continually being redecorated, much in the last few years, and ALL rooms in the entire property were decorated within the last 8 years. Bathrooms however are somewhat more modern interiors - either white Respatex or painted in contemporary shades of Dulux eggshell blue, almond white or light pinefrost green with modern chrome fittings. Taste of course anywhere is always subjective. Some people like modern art, some people prefer classical art, and some people like both.

As for the ‘busy road’, you stayed during the busiest few days of the year - running up to and including the August bank holiday weekend when the traffic and activity in Penzance was considerably greater then is normally the case.

Perhaps Newquay with its party life would have been a more appropriate destination in Cornwall for the two of you.

The Mount Royal Hotel cannot be faulted. On arrival we had a very friendly and courteous welcome. We were then shown our room which was in the front, this was very clean and well decorated. We had a very good view of St. Michaels Mount Bay.
The dining room is again very clean and tidy. The tables are laid to a high standard. The breakfast menu was very varied, you were spoilt for choice, plenty of tea or coffee, fruit juice, fresh fruit and a selection of cereals to start, followed by a cooked breakfast of your choice and of course toast to finish. This room also has a sea view.
The Mount Royal is well situated for the train station, the town centre is just five or ten minutes walk and about ten to fifteen minutes walk for the ferry to the Scilly Isles.
The young couple running the hotel are friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them.
The week we stayed, I think was the hottest week so far this year. Because of this, each day we came back from our days out we had two bottles of water left in our room courtesy of the hotel, which was a very nice thought.
I would not hesitate in recommending The Mount Royal to friends and relatives and I would certainly stay there again. Highly recommended.
