We've been to Polperro many times and visited this pub, but the young staff, led by a very personable bar manager, have raised the bar. Food is very good, service and overall cleanliness is excellent, well done.

My partner and I had visited the Three Pilchards just for drinks last year and were determined to come back again for food. So when we came on holiday last week with parents and our little girl we made sure we visited....3 times in fact!

We came for our evening meals, 3 nights out of 7 and did try to get in at one lunch time too but unfortunately there was no room.

Every time we visited, the food and service was absolutely spot on and thoroughly enjoyed by all. My mum particularly liked the prawns and scallops done 3 ways and had them every time we went! The meals are plentiful and you can tell that what is provided is of high quality. The presentation of the dishes is also very good. If you have children, I highly recommend the children's menu, good options and decent portion sizes.

I have to say the star of the show at the Three Pilchards was one of the waitresses...Esme. She made us all feel so welcome and on our last evening when it looked like we wouldn't be fitted in for our last meal, she went to the trouble of asking some of the other diners if they would be willing to move in order for our larger party to fit in. Thankfully they agreed to and we were able to enjoy the final evening of our holiday in our favourite pub. Esme also particularly entertained our 2 year old daughter who absolutely adored her! She has now named her new mermaid dolly Esme in her honour! Haha.

Finally, thank you to everyone at the Three Pilchards who made our evenings so enjoyable and without fault. We will certainly be recommending your establishment to anyone visiting the area and will be back next year!

We came into here hoping to enjoy a relaxing lunch time meal. We were promptly greeted and told we could have one of two very small tables - one by a very hot fire and one right by the door. We asked if we could sit at another of the many free tables, but were told these were for parties of four. I've been to places where couples are 'encouraged' to smaller tables but never denied a choice in a their this way before. We voted with our feet and went to another nearby pub where we were allowed to choose where we sat and enjoyed a lovely meal in a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. My advice to the owners / managers of the Three Pilchards is: if you want couples to sit at tables for 2, make sure you have a selection of such tables, that they are a decent size for 2 people to comfortably enjoy a meal and are in places people want to sit.

Very sorry to hear that you went elsewhere after coming to us. We have had an extremely busy Summer where we have had to accommodate a lot of large groups and encourage parties to sit on tables suitable for their size - unfortunately at the time of your visit it seems that we were still set on 'summer/hectic mode' and have now adjusted more to the 'winter' flow of customers where it is a lot easier to have a relaxed approach to seating to fit everyone in. We have a very cosy old pub and as such space is not a huge luxury for us - we have done our best to fit in tables of different shapes and sizes to accommodate different groups.
Hopefully if you visit us again you will find your experience much more enjoyable.
Best Regards

Beautiful Review thank you! Great to hear you enjoyed your visit with us. We are tweaking our menu in the next few weeks so hopefully you can come and enjoy something equally tasty (if not better!) next time you visit.
