“Cosy, close to the habour but difficult to access by car or by foot”
Reviewed 21 October 2013 for a stay in October 2013

Good things:
- Bright, south facing small 1 bed apartment - only large enough for 2 people.
- Central location in Polperro, minutes from the harbour
- Parking - albeit at a distance
- Great access to lovely cliff walks ( =having lunch in Talland Bay in season is a must)
- Well equipped, particularly the kitchen
- Recent new bathroom with bath
- Storage heating included in the price of the rental
- Good map and decription of Polerro and location of property

Less good things:
- The detailed inventory did not make clear that you need to take your own towels - or pay £5/towel/week to hire them
- Heating controls on night storage heaters had been disabled - so the heating was either 100% on or 0% on and there was no clues about when it came on!
- No double galzing either so noise from the street would be much worse in the summer,.
- Not including 'normal' electricity in the price. You have to use a £1 slot meter for everything except storage heating.
- Habour views only from patio or if you are over 6ft tall .
- The access on foot is up10+ awkward steps even sizes which would be very diificult to for anyone with any sort of walking disability.
- Access by car is very diificult - we had a middle sized estate car and we only tackled Talland Hill once when we did not know what to expect!
- Parking is 600yds (flat) walk towards CrumpleHorn - the space was tight for middle sized estate car and it was inconvenient if you had anything to carry
- Complete lack of recycling facilities for visitors in Polperro in house or village. 'Everything goes to land fill' , said the road cleaner.

Management Response
14 May 2014
Staying in a quaint fishing village such as Polperro does have it's drawbacks, such as lack of vehicular access to cottages and steep steps etc. However, Lucy's is one of the few cottages that can be accessed by car and parking is a level walk away. Full details of the cottage, size and number of steps, narrowness of Talland Hill, size of parking space etc are on our access statement that is sent to every visitor prior to arrival. Recycling of business waste is an issue in Cornwall which will hopefully be resolved in the near future. Similarly the electricity supply is an issue we have not yet resolved. When the electricity was supplied free, some visitors used it wastefully and, more importantly, left heaters etc on when the property was empty, creating a fire hazard. The slot meter is in credit when visitors arrive and rated at below cost, we do not expect much, if any, money, to be paid into the meter. This is our first year advertising on Tripadvisor and as issues come to light we resolve them. Although our advert states towels are not supplied it does not make it clear they are available to hire. Visitors booking through Tripadvisor, as opposed to direct, do not recieve all of the information until they have paid the full amount for their holiday, I will look at how we can improve this.

“Perfect cottage retreat”
Reviewed 30 March 2013 for a stay in May 2012

The previous reviewer has given a thorough, accurate account of Lucy's and so there isn't much more to add other than to say we had a lovely weeks stay in May 2012 and very much hope to return this year. I wouldn't hesitate recommending this as a lovely place to stay in a picturesque village.

“A perfect and cosy bolt hole for two people”
Reviewed 26 March 2013 for a stay in March 2012

This is the first opportunity I have had to review Lucy's as it has only recently been available to review on Trip Advisor. My wife and I have stayed at Lucy's several times since our honeymoon there in 1998, with the most recent stay being in March 2012.

To say that Lucy's is "cosy" is an understatement; it sits towards the bottom of Talland Hill in an elevated position with great views from both bedroom and sitting room windows. There's an entrance porch, which leads directly into the very comfortable sitting room complete with colour TV, DVD player, easy chairs, a good selection of table games and books and the fireplace. To the side is a table and chairs, and this leads to the galley-style kitchen complete with full sized cooker, washing machine, microwave, toaster, electric kettle and a full set of crockery, cutlery and utensils.

The double bedroom is opposite the kitchen and is even cosier than the sitting room, with lots of storage space. The bathroom sits at the end of the kitchen, accessed via a couple of steps down and is finished to the highest standards, with full sized tub, shower, basin and WC.

There's no mains gas in the village so all is powered with electricity, this being provided by a £1 pay meter in the front porch. The last time we stayed here it was cold outside and we had the storage heaters on every night but the meter was very reasonable to use and we didn't spend that much on staying warm, cooking, showering, and so on. Some places hike the fuel prices up to an unreasonable level, almost as a "second price for the rental period" but this is not the case with Lucy's.

There is a patio area that is reached via a set of outside steps from the front door and the views from here are spectacular. There is a set aside parking area in the Coombs which is included in the rates, this being a 6-7 minute stroll from the cottage.

Lucy's has a guest book which we always read and always add to; in all the years we have been staying here, I don't ever recall reading even one negative comment about the accommodation, in fact, everyone who stays here seems as enamoured with the place as we always do.

As you might expect, Lucy's is a no smoking cottage, and no pets. It looks after two people more than adequately, in warmth and comfort and is just a couple of minutes walk from the village pubs and restaurants.

We hope to return again soon, as Lucy's is without a doubt the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in.
