Shun Lee House and our hosts Paul and Terry made our stay in St. Ives a truly memorable time. Paul and Terry have such a gift for hospitality and have created a beautiful place to call home on one's travels. It is a clearly a home away from home. I keep thinking about the gorgeous location - really breathtaking views-but know that even if we hadn't had that part of the Shun Lee experience- we still would have loved our stay because of Terry and Paul's hospitality gifts.

We had been toying with the idea of staying in a spa over the Easter weekend as my wife and I wanted a nice relaxing break, however after reading the TripAdvisor reviews of the Shun Lee accommodation we decided to try this out instead. We have just left after spending a blissful 3 nights there and couldn’t have wished for a nicer place to stay.

After a lengthy 6 hour drive we arrived quite weary and were immediately greeted by Terry who helped us carry our luggage into the house. We also met our other host, Paul, who immediately offered us a delicious cream tea with scones & clotted cream (my favourite) and also a selection of cakes. We then had the pleasure of being introduced to their two adorable Yorkie terriers that kept us entertained during our stay. After finishing our drinks we were taken to our room, the Raffles Suite.

Upon entering the room the first thing to grab your attention is the view from the double aspect windows. I’ve included some images with this review, but they don’t do it justice...it really has to be seen to be truly appreciated. My wife and I stayed at the Qualia resort on Hamilton Island, Australia last year and I consider the view from the Raffles Suite room to be on par with the longhouse view from Qualia.

The room itself was also very warm and comfortable, so much so that we almost hoped for rain so that we had a good excuse for staying in and relaxing. The tea/coffee making facilities in the room included fresh milk (not the usual chemical rubbish) and a nice selection of biscuits that were always replenished throughout the day. There were also lots of little touches that made the stay special, the fresh flowers presented in a vase by the window, the Molton Brown and Crabtree and Evelyn toiletries and also the complimentary Channel Perfume.

The Pièce de résistance in the room for me though was the wonderful bed. We’ve stayed in some pretty exclusive places in the past but none have had a bed as comfy as this one!

The breakfasts are also some of the best we’ve had. Our table was set within the conservatory where Terry would take your order for hot items (of which there were many) and then Paul would cook these to your requirements. You were also presented with a selection of pastries, toast, fruit, yogurts...the list was endless. You could easily eat enough at breakfast to keep you going until the evening. We also received a caramel chocolate egg on Easter Sunday that was appreciated by us both being avid chocoholics!

Both Terry and Paul are exemplary hosts and would always welcome you when leaving or arriving at the house. They also have a vast knowledge of the area and gave us some great tips for eating out in the restaurants within St Ives.

I’ll definitely be recommending the Shun Lee to my family and friends when they come to stay in St Ives and we’ll definitely be staying again.

This was our third trip to Shun Lee and it just gets better and better! From the moment we arrived it felt as if we had come home. Terry and Paul made us feel so welcome in their beautiful home once again and even invited us to have dinner with them on our first evening there which was thoroughly enjoyable. The bedroom and bathroom is just perfect with a breathtaking view of St Ives. The bed is sumptious - you never want to get up! Paul's breakfast was top class as before and Terry's attention to detail ensured we never wanted for anything. We love it so much here we're already planning our next trip and know that we have discovered the best place to stay in St Ives, by far.

Shun Lee is one of those places that you have to tell your friends and relatives about but are worried that it may become so popular that you may have trouble booking a room. Terry and Paul are exceptional hosts and the accomodation is probably the best in St Ives.

We celebrated my wife's 40th birthday at Shun Lee and were looked after splendidly by our hosts Terry and Paul. We stayed in the raffles suite with superb views of St Ives from every window, we awoke every morning to a sumptuous breakfast cooked by Paul then a short walk into the town with no parking issues for a spot of shopping and a coffee with the backdrop of the sea. A memorable break which we will be repeating.

Terry and Paul are the perfect hosts, they leave you feeling like you are one of the family, everything was perfect, from the room, with its fluffy white warm towels, dressing gowns, luxury bathroom accessories, vanity kits and sewing kits in the drawers and a bed with an unbelievably comfortable matress, to the food, which was the best I had ever eaten. Shun Lee is a short costal walk from St. Ives and the scenic views are fantastic from the hotel, eating breakfast looking out over the bay was awesome. You are made to feel so special it's unbelievable, can't wait to return.
