“Great breakfasts, simple, clean: perfect for couples and friends!”
Reviewed 2 June 2009

I've been in The Regent Hotel in april 2009 with a friend. I really want to recommend it to everyone who is looking for a affordable and clean hotel at a perfect location of St Ives! The Regent Hotel is a small one, but peaceful with very friendly owners. We've been there for 5 nights but if we would stay for a longer period, it wouldn't be a problem (there was nothing what could cause irritating or something, and I think that's important). Maybe not so useful for big families or something because the capacity. Oh, and the breakfasts were REALLY delicious! I've never had such breakfasts in my life before! (Maybe we miss some skills in Holland ;) ). They cook it by themselves :) The location is great as well, because it's next to the bus stop and the train station and still close to the "centre" of St Ives! It took maybe about 2 minutes to walk through the beautiful small streets to the shops, restaurants, beaches, tourist information, etc. In short: fantastic for couples or a few friends (and walkers and so on) because the small capacity. And last but not least: mind the seagulls! ;)

We have stayed at the Regent Hotel many times over the years. Keith and Sandi are welcoming hosts, provide quality accomodation and breakfasts. The location is first rate and the option of parking either behind the hotel or on the car park by the station is a real bonus.

We have had two overnight stays at the Regent whilst viewing property recently, and were very impressed. The location is only a quick stroll down Skidden Hill or Tregenna Hill from the heart of St Ives and the harbour - its steep on the way back up but it isn't far. And being perched up on Fernlea Terrace means that you get wonderful views over the harbour - both the rooms we had made the most of these and it was great to just sit and watch night fall and the lights begin to twinkle.

Both our rooms were clean and comfortable, but there are quite steep steps either up or down to them. Our hosts Keith and Sandi were very helpful, and the choice at breakfast is excellent, whether for a full english, veggie options or fishy choices. And one of the biggest benefits is the use of a parking space - bit of a squeeze if everyone else is there but no real problem and a real boon being so close to town.

Hopefully our property plans will progress and we will have cause to go back again, something we will look forward to.

Location is very handy, next to the bus station, a short walk from the train station and overlooking the pretty roofs and (from the back) the town harbour of St Ives. The walk into town is very short and nicely downhill going, but steeply uphill on the return journey. The accommodation is not suitable if you're not able to negotiate steps and stairs, but otherwise it's perfectly located to make the most of St Ives without a vehicle and to easily catch a bus or train if you want to explore further afield.

Sandy and Keith are the owners of this B & B and are very welcoming and extremely helpful in assisting to make the most of the time in this beautiful part of England. They are both very knowledgeable about the area.

Accommodation is neat and very clean. Our twin-bedded room overlooking the sea and harbour, was very comfortable and had an ensuite shower and toilet, a service tray with tea/coffee, etc, hairdryer and hand and bath towels. The TV set was dated by modern standards, but who wants to stay in watching TV when the whole of St Ives is on the doorstep?

Carparking is always at at a premium in St Ives but The Regent has spaces either at the far end of the station car-park or in the tiny private carpark below the hotel.

The breakfasts are second to none! Sandy quietly and efficiently 'waits on' whilst Keith is busy in the kitchen. Various choices of teas and freshly made coffee, fresh fruit, an abundance of yoghurts, cereals, juices and fresh crisp toast, complement yet another abundance of choices for the main part of the meal. Smoked salmon, scrambled egg, smoked haddock, waffles, plus all the 'usual' full English breakfast components are available and freshly prepared to order.

We have returned to The Regent time and time again and are reluctant to let people into the secret of our little gem. The premises don't have 'street appeal' but once inside and once having tried the breakfasts, and seen the views from the dining room, it remains a firm favourite for many.

  • Liked — The handy location and the breakfasts
  • Disliked — Nothing not to like; love it all! - St Ives is hilly with lack of carparking and that's all part of its charm
