“RETURN TO CORNERWAYS - AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN !!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 August 2011

I have stayed at Cornerways many times over the last few years and always use this top class B&B as my first choice when in the town of St.Ives...........St Ives was packed tight over this last weekend yet Tim, the owner, found me a parking space at very short notice and helped me in with my luggage for a three night break.

The rooms are always in tip top condition and immaculately kept and the quaintness of this building that is steeped in literary history, never ceases to amaze me.

Tim had also had some family members down for the weekend along with two couples who book this same week every year and some other guests there on recommendation, so it was a very friendly atmosphere with everyone chatting in the dining area whilst enjoying Tim's 'Signature Breakfasts' !!

Still way top of the league as the 'Premier' B&B in the center of the 'Old Town' and yet is only 50 Meters from the harbor, town beach and a selection of restaurants to cater for all tastes and pockets

Cornerways is open all the year round so if you cant stand the hustle and bustle of peak season call in anytime and soak up a true 'Geordie' welcome from this top accommodation provider.........I have already made my next booking !!!

The one this you wont see in St. Ives is a Badger !...........plenty of seagulls........but not a Badger in sight !!!

We booked late and it was the oblivion I could get so I was delighted to discover how lovely it was. In a pretty side street just off the harbor front. The pretty cottage rooms had all you would expect, stylishly furnished and very comfortable. Breakfast offered a huge choose, including two fish choices as well as the normal egg and bacon English breakfast. I am happy to recommend it it.

Stumbled upon cornerways as the sun was descending on St Ives. A warm welcome, uniquely decorated room with a powerful hot shower awaited us inside. Tim was helpful with any request we had. Parking a challenge but persistence paid off. Breakfast was fresh and you cant get a better position to stroll and work it off. Go there.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Corner Ways and would recommend it to anyone. The staff are incredibly welcoming and friendly, always willing to help whenever possible. I can only describe the B&B as extremely idyllic encompassing the true nature and quirkiness of St Ives. We have stayed in rooms with or without a view but this does not matter as the sea is only a few minutes walk away. We loved the decor in the room and the small touches chosen to reflect the essence of St Ives. Again we were supremely impressed by the breakfast, a wide variety of fresh fruit, great service and a scrumptious full Cornish. We were even offered fresh mackeral straight from the harbour. How can you get better than that? We will continue to visit Cornerways, which is situated in the centre of winding cobbled back streets lined with exciting and unique shops. I can honestly say that Cornerways is the perfect place for anyone to experience the true nature of St Ives.

Looking forward to the next holiday!

Francine

Can't decide where to begin--the entire experience was super. To begin with, the B&B we had chosen blindly from the internet was not available. BUT, the owner sent me to the place across the street, who only had one of our 4 nights available. This one sent us to Tim at Cornerways, and then things began to happen ! As it turned out, he could do the first three nights for us, so we then went back to the second B&B and were able to get the last night booked. The co-operation between these three B&B's was impressive, and greatly appreciated.

Tim and Shelley are excellent hosts, friendly, approachable, knowledgeable, and oh-my the breakfasts ! Tim is the Chef, as well, and can he ever feed one perfectly ! We loved the sunny dining room, as well as our rooms, which were big-enough, with amazingly modern baths, and funky little stairways going ever upwards. A delight to be inside one of those cottages in Downalong, and to call it home for a stay.

If you can possibly get a room, take it !

Room Tip: Very convenient location with food and shops close

We have stayed at Cornerways a couple of times over the last few years and each time the experience has been lovely. Tim, the owner is very charming and makes you feel very welcome and the breakfast he rustles up each morning is absolutely fantastic - better than you will get anywhere else in St Ives.

The rooms are wonderful (we have stayed in 2 different rooms) - very contemporary with great en-suites and furnished to a high standard as is the rest of this guesthouse.

If you intend to go to St Ives for a few days make sure that you check availability here.

Room Tip: The rooms at the top of the house have sea views.

I think we had a bit of an unlucky experience.. But found our stay in st Ives disappointing.
Firstly, the website says parking at nearby car park.. However this was full for the entire duration of our stay. They do actually have 2 parking spaces - we found out during our stay - bur these were not available for us. We spent about an hour trying to park on arrival.
Hence we were then late checking in. On arrival the lady met us and was a bit rushed and bothered. Showed us to our room and left us to get on with it really.. We asked her a few things but it transpired they were having a dinner party later that evening, so fine.
Room was quite small but clean and smartly furnished. Think White towels would be preferable to leopard skin ones and fresh milk would be a nice touch but otherwise we were pleased. Stayed in the family room. No view at all - well a brick wall, which was a bit disappointing.
I guess the main issues for us were the noise. Having a tired 12 year old with us, we weren't really impressed to be kept awake until 1.30am by the dinner party, guests leaving and clearing up.
Finally getting off to sleep, we were woken at 6 by the room or maybe owners above moving about and in their bathroom - you could hear every word and mpvemnt very loudly.
So going to breakfast exhausted, the food again was disappointing. Fresh fruit was on the turn and when I asked what the cooked options were there weren't any sausages. The cooked breakfast was nice and he'd made an effort, but was a bit greasy.
The 'free entry to tate' advertised on website wasnt available to us - we got it the next day but was a reaso I'd booked so surprised to hear this was limited to 2 residents.
There were some people staying who seemed to be regulars and they were thoroughly looked after- from apologising about the noise to running out and getting marmalade for them.. None of this service for us left you feeling like a bit of an outsider.
Toilet / taps also made no end of noise everytime you used them.
Sorry..but these details would have made our stay much more enjoyable.
