although tim tait the proprioter is a pleasant helpful man .the room was a bit of a let down very little storage for clothing ect.also the person who cleans the room does not do such a good job as the lamp shades skirtings ect were very dusty . the fridge door compartment was very grubby.on the plus side the breakfast was very good.and had plenty of choices.the dining room was lovely.the b&b itself was very hard to find tucked away up the hill in a rabbit warren of properties.sat nav useless in st ives.despite the cons the pro was that st ives is lovely.

Room Tip: steer clear of mandaley room

I recently visited st Ives and looked at this hotel with a view to staying. Unfortunately the impression outside was one of a pink place well splattered with seagull mess. Inside was dark and small, the dining room being very offputting as it is 'very cosy'. I also found the notice that only well behaved children welcome was not very nice either. I also found the lack of parking unhelpful. The stairs are very narrow so luggage would be difficult to get up. Ther is no lounge to relax in as the dining room is the only place to sit or eat. The first table in the dining room would be annoying to sit at as everyone has to pass by you. It also a smell of incense about the place, perhaps to disguise cat odours?

I decided that we would find somewhere else.

This is my first ever review on Trip Advisor as I felt compelled to post a review to thank Tim for his amazing hospitality, generosity and kindness which I no doubt sorely tested after arriving on his doorstep, with just my 7 year old daughter and 18 month old son for company!

Let me first by saying that Cornerways is by far the most well appointed B&B that I have ever stayed in at St Ives. The room was clean, tastefully decorated and the location is absolutely perfect.

The breakfast is amazing and better than any other B&B I have ever stayed at in St Ives (and that’s saying something as I have been coming to this part of Cornwall for over 30 years and counting).

Close to the harbour, close to the town, close to Porthmeor beach and even closer to Porthgwidden beach, Cornerways is just a short walk from the Island car park right in the heart of Downalong.

Unfortunately my booking didn’t go as smoothly as planned but Tim could not have done anything more to really pull out all of the stops to make us all feel extremely welcome.

And how did I repay him?

By managing to leave our jackets in the wardrobe when we checked out which Tim promptly posted to us at his expense…

If you are planning a trip to St Ives and are looking for a B&B in a wonderful location promising a warm welcome, beautifully appointed rooms and a delightful breakfast, then look no further than Cornerways. You will not be disappointed.

It was half term madness and St Ives was awash with families and tourists all enjoying this very special place in the West Country…….Tim, ‘Mine Host’ of Cornerways sorted out my parking and we were all set for a few days of sheer indulgence in this wonderful costal resort.

I have stayed many times at Cornerways and the standard has never faltered and always with lots of attention to detail and a whole variety of guests who are all made to feel very special with the customer care element being top of Cornerways priorities.

Tim’s breakfasts are legendary and there is always a varied selection available to satisfy the most discerning patrons, including his signature tomato dish and some very fresh ‘Catch of the Day’.

Cornerways is both quaint and bijou with historic links to famous author, Daphne De Maurier.

What more to be said about this top quality venue, affordable, clean, great location and a proprietor that cares.

Room Tip: Ask Tim when booking

Small but very comfy room, spotlessly clean. Excellent breakfast choices. Owner Tim was a great host, helpful and kind. Car park nearby only £6.50 a day. We had a wonderful time in St. Ives and want to return soon.

Spend your holidays with us in Downalong, a labyrinth of cobbled lanes which used to be the fisherman's quarter in the oldest part of St Ives. Cornerways was built in the 1830s and has been a Guest House for over 70 years. Only 50 yards from the harbour, beaches and restaurants, Daphne Du Maurier stayed here in the 1940's. The Tate Gallery, for which we provide complimentary tickets, and St Ives Art School are only 150 yards away. Two of our rooms overlook the harbour and bay beyond. With a modern feel that echoes the artists’ quarter in which it sits, Cornerways’ rooms have been renovated and totally redecorated over the last 7 years and all have new en-suites. All bedrooms have LCD TVs, DVD Players, Wi-Fi, tea and coffee facilities, fridges and complimentary Cornish bottled water. The 3' thick Cornish Granite walls and no passing traffic will ensure you a snug & quiet night’s sleep.Breakfast is served in the uncrowded dining room with only fresh produce being used. We also cater for vegetarians. Fresh local fish is available daily, which includes smoked salmon, local mackerel, kippers and smoked haddock. Tim & Shelley ... more   less
