I came down for a short break with my boyfriend and we were very pleasently suprised with the friendly owners...we endured brilliant service the whole weekend from Jessica and Adrian, which made our weekend perfect. The bedrooms were bright and very modern, which is nice for a young couple to find this in a B&B! The room and bathroom were very clean and spotless. The breakfast was very well equiped and perfect timings for our relaxing weekend.....Thank you very much Jessica and Adrian we will be back again soon! x

Such a warm welcome and amazing hospitality throughout our stay! A beautiful area with so much to do and see. We were made to feel at home and just wished our stay was longer. Would recommend to everyone... excellent is an understatement!

We booked a twin room last minute for my mum's 40th Birthday, and were surprised to find a B&B that had such good reviews available last minute.
The day of arrival we were told there was shorter check in times available, due to Adrian being in a play, thankfully this didn't affect us, however it was an unpleasant thought that there was such strict timings on arrival when we were paying a substantial amount of money.
We were greeted warmly and pleasantly and shown to our room, which was nicely furnished, with comfortable beds (however no valance to cover the unsightly bases). There was an off taste to the kettle and although a lovely touch adding biscuits to the refreshments, one pack was already open and stale.
The bathroom was very small- barely able to turn around when you had washed your hands, and there were problems with the top door runner.
We went out in the evening and arrived back at 9.45pm to find absolutely no lights on at all, making it very difficult to get into the house, and quite dangerous. It was very hot weather when we stayed and you weren't able to open the windows enough for the room to cool down- just let in a lot of traffic noise.
We were told breakfast was a very short, strict time of 9-9.30am which we found quite late, and if you wanted it at any other time it would have to be 'packed lunch style'. A window of 8-10 to choose from would be much better for such a location when people would like to be up and about a bit earlier, or lie in a little- as it is a holiday destination. The food in general was nice, if a little odd the only toast making facilities were in the breakfast room (that had a very uncomfortable/unwelcome atmosphere) which meant my scrambled egg came on a lone plate and I had to transfer it to toast. We were also given a small tea pot for 2 people, and when we asked for more, all Jessica did was fill it with hot water, meaning it was undrinkable.
The selection available for breakfast was good, just would have been nicer to have a better environment and less strict timings, as this made it feel more like a school trip rather than a short break.

Dear Reviewer,

I’m sorry that our little B&B was not suitable for your requirements. We do everything to make sure that our guests have the best stay possible and I hope to cover below some of your complaints.

Often one night gaps are hard to fill as guests usually wish to stay longer, this would explain the late availability and the fact that we were able to accommodate you at such short notice.

We are a family home renting just 3 bedrooms, we have no 24 hour reception and both have jobs in addition to the B&B. This means that we offer set check-in times and ask to be notified of an arrival time in advance. All our check-in times are noted on our website and in our confirmation letters. At the time of your booking we had just extend our check-in times, but due to human error I had done it a week early (as I had forgotten the show my husband was in with a local charity group ran for another week). As I am sure you can imagine this isn’t something that happens often. If guests insist on arriving outside our check-in time (currently 11am ‘til 3pm and 7pm ‘til 10pm) we will do our best to meet their requirements, including changing our days off etc, whoever for last minute bookings this isn’t always possible. I thought you were happy with your arrival as even though you arrived 4 hours prior to when you said you would you room was ready and we checked you straight in. We offer some of the latest and earliest arrival times available in the area for a B&B.

We also make sure our rates are highly competitive for a 4 star in the area and offer reductions for longer stays. We don’t tend to offer one night stays unless we have one night gaps as the cost to such a small B&B are substantial more than for a one night in a bigger hotel.
Kettles are washed out and left empty and the end of each stay but tap water tastes different from area to area. All tea trays are checked and toped up each day, however if a packet had split without notice this would explain the biscuits. This would certainly not have been left knowingly and had you pointed it out we would have replaced it straight away.

We would of course love to have bigger bathrooms, but as we are just a family home it isn’t possible. It tends not to be something guests complain about as our biggest room has the smallest of our 3 bathrooms and guests would rather sit in the large bay widow instead. We do reflect our bathroom sizes in our prices, in line with similar accommodation in the area. I have had a look at the bathroom door and although it still works properly it catches slightly and we have had someone in to look at it. This can only be amended by taking the door out, so unfortunately will have to wait until we are a bit quieter. Luckily no other guests have had any issues with it, but I am sorry it was such a problem for you.

Our beds are all very new, so the bed bases are in very good condition and we chose to not have valances as we find they collect dust, don’t look right with our style of room but also restrict access to the under bed storage we offer in all our rooms.

We have no restrictions on the comings and goings of our guests outside the check-in and check-out times. We will always endeavour to leave corridor lights on the bottom, top or both of the landings, but as the light switches are accessible to all guests sometimes these are turned off when we are not in to turn them straight back on again. Usually the skylight provides enough natural moonlight for guests to find the switch on the rare occasions when the lights have all been turned out. I will look into a timed lamp for the landing.

All our windows are top opening double glazing. The windows in the bay window open out at least a foot and the other larger window in the triple room opens out at least 2 foot. The bottom windows are like most upstairs windows and don’t open for health and safety. The property is on one of the quieter roads in town. But as St Ives is such a popular area in the summer months, I’m afraid there isn’t much we can do about the traffic. We do have a fan that we offer guests that express to us that their room is too hot and all radiators have thermostats to allow guests to adjust the temperature to meet their requirements.

All our breakfast times are clearly stated on our website, so guests know before booking. Although in some ways it would be great to offer a wider time slot, it is not very feasible to, due to perishable items on the buffet table and also hot food preparation. As we are not a large hotel, opening up the kitchen and breakfast room very early like 8am would disturb sleeping guests, which is why we offer the 'packed lunch style' breakfast alternative. It is very popular and something we receive many compliments about. A firm favourite for the early train journeys home and tends to see guests through until dinner time. Many guests will also sit around after breakfast time until as late as 11am on occasions, planning their days with a cup of tea, while some guests take their tea to the patio at the front of the house.

We chose the often popular option of toaster in the breakfast room, to allow guests access to hot toast, cooked the way they like it and as much of it as they want. We also went for 2 cup tea pots as the larger pots often go cold before the guests get to their second cups. Guests are allowed as many fresh pots as they like, some ask to just be topped up with water or for a new pot. If we had been advised that it was too weak for you we would quite happily given you another tea bag. We will always aim to meet any of our guests’ requirements.

All B&Bs run things a little differently and we make sure our website shows a clear representation of what we provide. Unfortunately we are not a large hotel with lots of staff but we do aim to deal with any issues that our guests bring to us, however we are only human and if we don’t know at the time, we can’t fix it.

I am sorry that our place wasn’t the place for you.
Kindest Regards
Jessica

We recently stayed with Chy Conyn for a short break in St Ives, and were so pleased we chose this B&B! Jessica is a lovely, warm host, and cooks a mean breakfast! The rooms were spotless and tastefully designed. The wifi, sea views, and sweet little spaniel were a bonus!

We felt relaxed and at home at Chy Conyn, and will certainly be recommending it to our friends! Thank you, Jessica!

Nice and friendly welcome, clean spacious room ( we had the room on the front of the house). Lovely fresh cooked breakfast, very attentive - couldn't have asked for better. Parking could be an issue as there's limited parking, however there is some off street parking a couple of mins walk away.
Not far from town centre but get ready for those hills on the walk back. Overall really good stay would recomend.

Room Tip: The one at the front is the biggest however, you can hear the traffic - not a lot but it's there...

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for your nice review. Parking in St Ives is like magic fariy dust, but we do our best.
Trains and buses in the summer months are very good in the area, and mean you're free to try some of that lovely Cornish cider with lunch while exploring the area!
We hope to see you again soon.

Best Wishes
Jessica & Adrian
