It was the perfect end to our short tour of Devon and Cornwall and we wouldn't hesitate to return. The Keep is definitely far superior in every respect to the 'traditional' B & B - there really is no comparison!
Breakfast (especially on the last day when we partook of Carol's amazing berry pancakes) was simply delicious.

We were made to feel so welcome that it felt more like we were staying with friends.

There is very little that can be said about the Keep that has not previously been said by others who have stayed here before us. This really is a very perfect bolthole right in the middle of St Ives that cannot be faulted. We arrived and were greeted by the owners, Carol and Mike, who showed us to ours room and made us feel most welcome. The room we were allocated, Pilchard Press, was extremely comfortable and tastefully decorated. Breakfast on both mornings was excellent, especially the ‘specials’.

Overall this is a very friendly, comfortable, well located Bed & Breakfast that we would recommend to others without any reservations whatsoever. We are certain that when we return to St Ives we will be staying in The Keep again and look forward to meeting the perfect hosts again.

Well, where to start?

Our 3 day stay at The Keep was a very rare creature - an almost faultless experience from start to finish (the only blot? Our charming, attentive hosts, Mike and Carol failed to organise good weather on day 3 of our stay!...).
From start to finish, they thrilled us with little thoughtfulnesses (home made chocolate crispies magically appeared on our return from a damp walk, corkscrew and glasses were set out on out table, when they saw that we had brought our own bottles of wine, tide tables sprung from nowhere when we mentioned in passing that we were visiting St. Michael's Mount the next day, and so on).

The quality of our hosts' welcome and service was matched by the quality of both the accommodation and the food; to be woken from a deep slumber between Egyptian cotton sheets on an unbelievably comfortable bed, and greeted with eggs Benedict and salmon and a bottomless pot of hot delicious coffee is pretty close to paradise! Breakfast choices were changed every day of our stay and all were of the same high quality. We were even able to avail ourselves of a packed lunch for our long trip home at a very reasonable additional charge, and that too was excellent!

Mike and Carol were full of local knowledge and tips that helped us get the most from our stay, and could not do enough to make it comfortable and rewarding.

In summary;

Accommodation - stylish, of the highest quality, and marvellously comfortable.
Service - the perfect balance of attentiveness and invisibility.
Cleanliness - absolutely forensically clean, EVERYWHERE
Wow factor - not half!
Welcome - unparralleled in our experience.

B&B's will never be the same again. Try The Keep. Just once. You'll thanks us for the tip.

Room Tip: Make use of Mike's excellent parking tips!

My girlfriend and I stayed at The Keep in St. Ives during our road trip of the UK. We were on a tight budget but splashed out a little (for us) and had two nights at The Keep - and we are so pleased that we did! The "little extra" that we paid was well worth while and we were treated in return with a few days of luxury and comfort.

The B&B is small - I think there are just two double rooms - are joined by a common dining area/lounge, where free tea and coffee is available. The owners Mike and Carol have done a fantastic job of creating a beautiful contemporary - yet relaxed - place. Our room was (the smaller of the two) was slightly on the small side - perhaps because the lovely comfy bed was so big! The bathroom is super-modern, bright and clean. Great shower!

Breakfast is served in the lovely light and bright common room that joins the two bedrooms and was both substantial and delicious! If I have one slightly negative comment about the room, it is that the dining area and neighbouring room are separated by a glass door with blinds in it. Not that anyone could see inside, but we did feel a little self-concious that fellow guests might be able to hear us in the dining room or next door, but that may just me being paranoid! On the flip side, if you are two couples or a family travelling together, it will fell like you have the entire place to yourselves and would be really well suited to such travellers.

Mike and Carol were superb hosts and it would have been so easy to have spent our days chatting with them. Thanks for making our time in St. Ives the most memorable time on our trip!

This was my first visit to Cornwall and The Keep was the perfect base, it is just a 2mins walk from the surf beach and less than 5 from d harbour. It’s close proximity to all the amenities is a major plus as the area is famous for its steep hills but this B&B is tucked away in the ideal location allowing you easy access to the village without the steep climbs. The room was immaculately clean and extremely comfortable. The breakfasts were supberb….my favourite was the pancakes with the berries & clotted cream- delicious. They’re recommendations for restaurants etc. were also excellent. It must be said that Carol and Mike are the perfect hosts, anything that was required they provided happily and without question. It is the perfect location for a relaxing break. Without a doubt I would go back to St Ives and definitely stay at The Keep again.
