“another fantastic stay!!!!!!!”
Reviewed 20 March 2012

stayed here 'again' last saturday. I can only praise this establishment,. the rooms, staff are all absolutely fantastic, special mention to Jamie and Stevie, who made our stay even more enjoyable. Absolute stars. Food was yummy (as usual) breakfast was equally yummy ( I apologise again for putting a croissant in the toast machine !! much to the amusement of my pals !!! I didnt read the sign!! ) I think I want to move in,.. We were in a group of approx 20 who approx twice a year come to Pedn Olva Hotel, looking forward to our next stay., thanks so much. XX

Room Tip: every room I have stayed in has had a seaview. all fantastic

As we were staying in St Ives and it was Mothers day we decided to have a Sunday Lunch.....it was very good. Excellent Beef, fresh vegetables and the view is fantastic.
Staff were friendly and we could not fault anything , we will be back !

We visit the hotel at least twice per year with our meal group (20 people) and always have a lovely time. It is always reassuring to see the same faces amoung the staff, it is an added bonus when they remember you from your last stay. Jamie and Stevie were fantastic throughout our entire stay and really went the extra mile. Dinner last night was lovely as was breakfast this morning. One of our group was celebrating a birthday today and was presented with a cake this morning at breakfast, it was a lovely touch and ended our stay on a very pleasant note. Well done to the Managers and their team for such consistency in their offer. We are already planning our next trip in October. Thank you

Room Tip: room 16 is roomy and probably has the best view out to sea

This hotel has a gorgeous view of the beach, is keenly priced and has real character. However, be warned the rooms are tiny, there is no parking (had to carry luggage from the town centre) and the wifi didn't work in the room.

What more can you say about the location that hasnt been mentioned before. It is in a fantastic spot, which looks to be the best in St Ives. Very easy access into St Ives along a coastal walkway which allows you to pop in and out easily within 10mins. Sandwiched between the beach and the harbour this translates into fantastic rooms from every room. We were on the end of the hotel in room 24, with rocks directly below and waves crashing all night long. We left the window open just so we could hear the sound of the sea at every opportunity.

The location does come with a price, in the form of car parking which is £6.30 per 24 hours in the station pay and display or £8 per night for a reserved hotel parking space.

Room was small which didnt bother us, just enough room and was more than happy with the view and large window so didnt worry about the size at all. The bathroom though could have done with a complete refurbishment, as it was old it came across as unclean in places though I am sure this is more down to maintenance / upkeep. But really the bathroom didn't feel like it had been given any attention for a while.

Breakfast was great, plenty of selection including a good selection of fish on the breakfast menu. Restaurant and bar give great views of the sea and we had great tables when we ate for breakfast with fantastic views.

Bar manager was great (sorry didnt catch his name) and very knowledgeable about local beers / ciders and guided us to our selection. Welcome on reception by young lady / girl was great and she showed us our room personally which is a nice touch and something you dont see in many UK hotels.

Overall the hotel has a laid back feel and doesnt take itself too seriously (think staff in Polo shirts etc), its not fine dining or a high class experience but I guess its not trying to be. If your looking for that then try elsewhere. The location makes this hotel what it is.

We booked at the last minute, in fact the same morning, on Late rooms.com and got a great deal for 4 nights starting Tuesday Feb 21st. Soon after booking online, and in the car, driving down to St Ives, Jill from reception phoned us to ask if we would like her to reserve us a parking space for our stay. V nice. When we arrived, I carried our cases into reception, and then went and parked our car. When I returned, the receptionist on duty ( she has red hair, very pleasant girl) had carried them upstairs to our room- unexpected good service. The hotel is in a lovely spot with great views of the harbour and Porthminster Beach. As long as you can manage the steps down from the car park to the hotel, a great place to stay. We will definitely stay again, when we return to St Ives

As has been said in past reviews the location of the Pedn Olva is amazing with the waves crashing onto Porthminster Beach just feet below your rooms and all the restaurants, pubs and shops of St Ives are just a short walk away. Parking could be a real nightmare in the high season as spaces in the car park were at a premium in February let alone July and August. But having stayed at a number of five-star resorts, the service from the staff at the hotel was simply superb from the start of our stay right through. Yes rooms are on the small side as is the bathroom but what you pay for here is the location and the stunning views from your room. I would be reluctant to pay full price in the summer given car parking is extra but get yourself a deal in the off-season like I did and you won't be disappointed. I'll be back - no fears on that score.
