Again wonderful location to be able to sit in the bar/lounge and have a meal and look our over St Ives bay. It took us by surprise as we thought the GP could not use this hotel and its facilities. The waitresses were not the friendliest but the food made up for it.
Now to try the hotel as it looks good.

I cannot fault the location. The views over the Harbour are simply the best.

We booked the Suite for a few nights in August. We have been to St Ives very many times and more than once already this year. Usually we rent a cottage but we wanted a nice three nights away and this seemingly fit the bill.

The Suite is not cheap - £250+ per night. The room itself was lovely, not only the views out of the windows that ran the length of the room but the bath, the bedding and the fact that it was quiet (apart from the standard seagulls of course!)

But the room is just out of keeping with the rest of the Hotel: Pedn Olva actively encourages non-residents to come into the Hotel but has no Residents Only areas. The toilets are treated as public conveniences by families to and from the beach, with some waiting outside and others with sandy gear in the toilets areas, whilst residents queue to enter. The bar, dining and terrace areas are often packed with non-residents, sometimes not even bothering to order on the terrace; and even the pool area had non-residents.

The staircase to the terrace goes outside the Suite door. Entry to and from the room was like getting the Tube on occasions. And a glass of beer was spilt outside or room on the first day and the stain was still there when we visited the terrace (for the sole purpose of checking the stain!) two weeks later.

Decent food. Willing staff. But the Suite is given to anyone who books a room when they're full and I suspect that the fact that we pre-ordered the Suite at the rack rate in advance was almost unique. Decent place, nice Suite but very much overpriced for this Hotel. It's a shame because we very much wanted to rave about the place but we felt slightly cheated out of the experience we had expected.

We were taken by our friends in Cornwall for a meal here. Our table perfectly positioned overlooking the wonderful West Porthminster Beach in St Ives bay with clear blue sea, the sun was shining, the beer cold and the company great!

The food was good, not fine dining but a great attention to detail in taste and presentation. Prices fair and lots of choice. I have given this place a four based on the position/location and I would give the food a high three. The burger had a lovely char grilled taste and all served in a fresh seeded bun with salad. Well presented and the meat of high quality.

However the view from our table was absloutely breathtaking! It makes you realise why Cornwall is a firm favourite with Brits and foreign holiday makers. Miles and miles of beautiful sandy beach and the coastline peppered with pubs, restaurants, cafes and hotels allowing us all to reap the benefits of what nature gave them.

I plan to go to this restaurant again next time I am in Cornwall. I want to go with the same friends, have the same table, the same food, another cold beer and of course the same blazing sunshine! A lovely time I want to repeat!

Stayed 3 nights at this hotel and am struggling to find anything negative to say about it. From check in to check out I found the staff to be polite and helpful, When I opened the door to my room the view out of the large picture window literally took my breath away. All of the rooms at this hotel have uninterrupted sea views, mine also had a full panoramic view across St Ives Bay to the town and harbour.
I had booked a single room and although small was perfectly acceptable. The bathroom way tiny with just a toilet and shower cubicle, the wash basin was outside of the bathroom in a narrow alcove in the room. Everything in the room was spotlessly clean and the beverage tray was well stocked. There was also a striped beach towel left for you to use when taking advantage of the residents only outdoor pool and sun terrace.
The views from the terrace and restaurant were on the opposite side of the hotel from my room and overlooked the beautiful Porthminster beach.
Speaking of the restaurant the only quibble with my stay was that as I was on a dinner, bed & breakfast package the choice of evening meal was very limited and barely changed each day.
If I ever go back to St Ives I will certainly stay here again and recommend it but suggest going for the B&B option only.

We have just got home from a week in the Pedn olva Hotel, st Ives, Cornwall. We have stayed there four times now and you could never get fed up of the fantastic views, we have stayed in four rooms and though they are on the small side they are adequate with all amenity's. To add to this all the staff from the receptionist when you arrive, to the bar staff, restaurant staff & not forgetting the cleaners are extremely nice and helpful. this year was topped off because we got the excellent weather as well, can't wait till next year.

Room Tip: south sides are excellent views.

I took my wife here for a birthday evening meal on the 6th September. the fish meal was delicious but the steak was tough and gristly. The explanation was they had been having problems with their supplier?? Desert was delicious.Waiting and bar staff were efficient but robotic.
A very pleasant location with stunning views.
I would visit again.

Wow! What an improvement. It is clear to see that the pedn olva has had some serious investment this year. From the contemporary glass railings around the hotel to the palatable colours inside, the transformation is 100% improvement.
I agree with another review that the bathrooms weren't included in this recent update and could really do with titivating or modernising. What I did like in the bathroom was the new soaps shampoo etc. although I would like to see hair conditioner and body lotion in a four star hotel.
The service, from all the staff was impeccable . It's so nice to return to a hotel and see familiar faces and those familiar faces recognising returning guests. Too many names to mention here but you all were lovely.
The food has had a seriously good facelift too. The two evening meals we had were good restaurant standard. My sister said it was the best pappardelle she'd ever had. Big wine list with a well qualified expert to help!
Breakfasts had a large choice with a special every morning ( and quite adventurous).
Well done and thank you to Drew, Andrew and to all the staff for making our end of summer break such a memorable one.
vous voir l'année prochaine. Actually we'll be back drekly!

Room Tip: Any room has a spectacular view.
