Reviewed 5 February 2010

As mentioned by other guests, the best thing about this hotel is its amazing location -on the rocks and shoreline in St Ives. Great views out towards the open sea; also views of either St Ives Harbour, Porthminster Beach, or both, depending on which room you're in. The young ladies on reception provided an outstanding service - polite, efficient, helpful and friendly, just like the older lady does who has served me in the past. The delicious Continental Breakfast was delivered on-time to my room. Again, the lady who deliverd it,( she was also one of the receptionists), was efficient and friendly. My single room, although tiny, had everything i needed, including a tv with loads of freeview channels. Also, the room was very peaceful, the only noise being the sound of the sea washing against the rocks. If you open the window, this is quite noisy, even in calm weather !

We just had the most fantastic break here. Beautiful breakfast outside overlooking the beach, a swim in the cliffside pool, divine dinner. The food was as good as any we've had anywhere. Wonderful.

i stay at this hotel several times a year and it is the evry best place to relax.
the rooms are small but you will spend all the time looking out of the window anyway and the views are unsurpassed.
the restaurant is beautiful, the food fantastic the staff are always welcoming.
this hotel is very relaxed and informal, and offers excellent value for money. i would not stay anywhere else in st ives.

We spent two nights at this hotel to celebrate my 60th birthday - I chose St ives as I wanted to visit the Tate and the Hepworth Sculpture Garden, but I wanted the visit to be memorable and the Pedn Olva came up to the mark. We had a bargain deal and a wonderful room overlooking the sea. The rocks were below the window and the waves crashed over them (a storm must be quite an experience!). Wonderful view over Carbis Bay and St Ives harbour. Yes, the room was on the small side, but nice and compactly fitted out - fine for the weekend. The dining room was great - we sat by the window for all our meals, overlooking the sea. Meals were hearty and of good quality - not good for my figure! Service is good and the hotel was comfortable and warm with an open fire in the guests lounge. The hotel was also nice and close to the station. The weather was kind so we had a good weekend - visit the Russian shop in town - run by a Russian Scot!! We understood that the hotel was full over Christmas and New Year, so there's a recommendation!

We have just returned from one of our many trips to St. Ives staying in the Pednolva Hotel, sadly though I think this will be our last for quite sometime. Unfortunately there are a few things that let this lovely hotel down.
Yet again we had a problem with the room that we had booked, as I said we have stayed here many times and have a good knowledge of the rooms and always try to select specific ones - it is infuriating when we have booked these and then been told on arrival that for one reason or another the room/s are not available. Once or twice fair enough, more than that questionable.
The main problem this hotel has is the reception staff, without execption they are very arrogant and at times rude, they could all do with some significant customer care training. They really let down the staff team as a whole. All other staff including bar, waiting and housekeeping are brilliant. I must mention Joy (head housekeeper) who could really show the recepionists a thing or two about customer relations and care, Mel (dining room) Katie in the bar....excellent.
There is a new chef in the kitchen and I have to say that the food is excellent, by far the best we have experienced here to date and reasonably priced.
There a couple of niggles not major...but in the evening sometimes they have lovely candles on each table and sometimes they don't and for some reason the tv in the bar is constantly on, the candles with some soothing music would be nicer!
Unfortunately i feel the Pednolva have us, the customer over a barrel, they don't need to try to hard as due to it's location there will always be people to fills the beds. Some lessons on valuing the customer need to be learnt, this is aimed at the reception staff particularly.

A return trip on a special offer similar to last year. Stayed in the same room (32 - Bamaluz) which although still small is great for the balcony and proximity to the sea and was in good condition - new TV but still some improvements could be made (towel ring near the wash basin needs replacing). All the staff we came into contact with were great and most helpful. Real improvement this year was in the Restaurant where there appears to be a new chef. Food for the first night meal in as part of the offer was GREAT - some of the BEST i have eaten in a hotel and was almost inclined to cancel the booking made outside for the 2nd night but that was good too!
ery happy to go back again in the new year if the offer available is as good!

Stayed 2 nights in early September 2009. The weather was fantastic which helped of course. Nice hotel, good breakfasts. Parking is a problem as they don't have enough spaces allocated in the adjacent station car park also the rooms and bathrooms are small for a hotel of this class but the view from the bedroom we had more than made up for any minor shortcomings.
