Tregenna Castle Resort
Ranked #10 of 21 Hotels in St Ives
Reviewed 23 April 2012

We stayed in the apartment overlooking the golf course for a long weekend. Our apartment was spacious, furnished well, and warm.
Pros - A lovely walk to St Ives from the castle, the grounds are very well kept, the staff are very polite.
Cons - The shower cubicles are too small, we had a leak one morning from the apartment upstairs water was dripping onto my sons face. It was rectified straight away though.

We booked our wedding with Tregenna Castle pretty much the day we drove up it's inviting driveway and saw what an idilyc location it would be for our dream wedding, they didn't disappoint.

To say the staff are helpful would be a massive understatement, they were so eager to make sure we had the best day of our lives. They were immediately on hand to tend to our needs but also stayed in the background when appropriate.

The food was of a very high standard, we dined with friends and family on the Friday night which was enjoyed by all. The breakfast was a buffet service and also a good standard. The wedding Breakfast itself was HUGE my Wife and I simply couldn't eat it but this was probably down to our nerves on the big day.

The rooms are quite old fashioned but given the nature of the building they should be just what guests should expect, the only complaint we had was that the windows needed a good clean in the bridal suite, this was not ideal for pictures of the bride to be.

The wedding service was conducted with complete professionalism by the hotel and we were helped through the day without feeling pushed or stressed out. Every one of the requests, for example the table decoration placements were carried out to perfection. They do this for a living and they are extremely good at it. I would advise anyone thinking of marrying in St Ives to strongly consider this venue.

We will be visiting again, probably for our anniversary, but the memories of wedding day will be dear forever thanks to this wonderful venue.

This was our first visit to Tregenna Castle Hotel and we hope to return soon with our friends and family. The views from the West Wing sea view room were absolutely stunning. The public rooms and facilities were fantastic. We had meals in the Brasserie and the Restaurant which were very good and the service was top class. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.

Room Tip: West Wing Sea View!

pros are that the view and the grounds are irrisistable truely stunning and driving up to the hotel is mesmorising, i can see why people get married here such spectacular photo opportunities. Food was good, we had breakfast and the carvery both of which offered great choice. staff friendly and accomodating. cons were the pool, it just seemed unclean and slimy is how i described it, the squash courts were being painted whilst we were there so sure they will be looking more appealing. Room was big we had a family castle sea view, we could see the sea if a car wasnt parked outside, but the room was tired and the sheets stained, lovely strong shower but again tired decor fictures and fittings. maid service was not consistant, 2 days in and mud and and sand and still wasnt hoovered.
i wouldnt stay here again overall.

We have a scheduled programme of maintenance underway and will attend to the issues that you raised as soon as possible.
With regards to the sheets; I am very sorry that your sheets had stains on them. We do not own or launder our linen, towels etc, but rent them from a private contractor. Therefore, thank you for bringing this to our attention, so that we can raise this issue with them.
I am very sorry that you feel that you would not return to visit us again. I sincerely hope that one day you will reconsider.

This was our 3rd visit to Tregenna, the 2nd as hotel guests. On both occasions we booked West Wing sea view rooms and are so glad we did, the views from the large windows are simply stunning. I confess that we left the curtains open one night, drifting off to sleep watching the twinkling lights of St Ives far below and the reassuring flash of the lighthouse.

From checking in to checking out all the staff we met couldn’t have been more friendly or helpful, they are a credit to the hotel. We ate in the restaurant on one occasion and had a drink in the bar each night before dinner, service in both was exemplary even though it was busy. The barman even apologised for the (literally) few minutes wait we encountered whilst he served a large group of guests from a wedding party in one of the function rooms.

I filled a comment card before we checked out mentioning just a couple of minor things that could make staying at the hotel even better experience and was amazed to receive an e-mail almost immediately thanking me for my comments and explaining that my suggestions had been passed on to the relevant departmental managers.

Yes the rates are on the expensive side but you only get what you pay for and I for one would rather have a perfect 4 night stay at Tregenna than a mediocre 7 night one at a cheaper establishment.

We will definitely be back again.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a West Wing Seaview Room if you can - simply gorgeous views

It is a spectacular view from the west wing and at night, with the chapel on the Island appearing to float, it certainly is beautiful.
We thank you for your loyality and look forward to your return.

This is a large and imposing hotel, sports and golf complex on the main hill on the approach to the centre of fabulous St Ives. There are also several self catering properties of all sizes and types. The GOOD NEWS - the position is one of the best in the resort with commanding views over the town and beach; the food in the two restaurants is excellent with a choice of set menu [dining room] or a la carte [bistro]; plenty of space in the public rooms / bar and out door terrace; all manner of sporting activities inc indoor and outdoor swimming pools; ample parking. The BAD NEWS - somewhat pricey; the main building hotel bedrooms [although adequate] need totally up-dating and the single glazed sash windows need draft proofing.

The service in the bar was excellent, but random in the dinning areas.

It is AA 3 star rated property for all the latter reasons and not the former.

Room Tip: worth paying the extra for the sea view and request on a higher floor
