“Groupon offer”
Reviewed 29 November 2013 via mobile

We, husband and I , visited this hotel for two nights with a special groupon deal, and we're not disappointed. The hotel sits in a huge vast area high up above St Ives, with lovely gardens, fab view and a golf course.
We stayed in room 53 on the first night, which was cosy, warm, and very clean however it was situated next to the exits and sadly was very noisy with through traffic going past our room, but the following morning wee asked to change rooms due to the noise and the staff accommodated our request with no issues and we were given a better room with a sea view at no extra cost thank you very much!
Again the room was clean lovely big bed, and as the heating was off as the room wasn't being used we were given a heater to warm up the room while the heating became active!....which was very effective.
The staff at this hotel were friendly, approachable and happy to serve you at any request.Especially Cynthia, who we chatted to quite a lot as we all love the Canary Islands!
The breakfast was plentiful, lots of choice, and freshly cooked.we ate in the restaurant which was reasonable cost wise.
I injured an ankle while staying, while walking in the town, and the staff were very helpful with providing many ice packs!
We have booked another weekend next year at this hotel,to relax, and chill out.......we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others.

We wish we could of stayed longer! We stayed in one of the lodges and whilst they are slightly dated they are still spotlessly clean and of a high standard. I would recommend this for a lovely family uk holiday. The restaurant was nice , friendly staff and good food. Reasonable price. We hope to go again. Thankyou tregenna staff

We stayed overnight on a weekend road trip to Cornwall. The hotel and grounds are just above St Ives down a long drive. There are golf courses, lodges, gardens and free car parking all round the main building. After seven hours in the car we wanted a bit of comfort, and the room was fine, though the bed was just a double. Unfortunately we had noisy neighbours, shrieking and shouting at all hours, but I guess that was just bad luck ?

I checked out the gym and pool area which looked extensive, but we'd not brought swimwear. The walls in reception and more so down towards the gym looked very shabby though - maybe they were about to be painted ? Not a top class impression, but not a problem.

We were told of the path to walk down into the town, but it was near impossible to find the morning after, let alone at night so we ate in the restaurant.

Breakfast the next morning was good hot and filling and we did find our way down through the gardens to the beach road, about 15 minutes to the town.

Overall a good stay, at a good (reduced) price, but it just needs to smarten up a bit if its going to justify the price charged in summer !

Thank you for your review. The ground floor was obviously in the process of being redecorated, but is now virtually completed.
The path through the woods into town, is off the main driveway and is signposted, plus we provide a map of the estate upon check in.
Our prices throughout the year, are wholly competitive and in many cases less expensive, than other hotels in the region that do not provide the same services and facilities as we do.
I hope that you enjoyed your time with us and will come back and visit us again.

My partner, 3 year old son and I stayed here in self catering in June 2013. We had an absolutely fantastic stay and could not fault a thing! My little boy loved the swimming pool, our apartment was lovely without any faults, the staff were friendly, and the views beautiful. As we enjoyed our stay so much, we decided to return with some of our family this November (party of 6). This time we stayed in self catering in castle village, the apartments were lovely, plenty of room, heating worked fine. One thing i would say is that we could of done with a light in the car park by castle village, as we arrived in the evening and had no clue where we were going. Some of the beds were a little uncomfy but this wasn't a huge issue. Staff were very friendly and very helpful when we asked them how to get the heating working. We did not eat in the hotel and therefore cannot comment. The one and only thing that we were very dissapointed with was the temperature of the swimming pool. It was so so cold! My little boy loves swimming, and was looking forward to the 'big pool' he could remember from before. but not even he could brave the cold! It was unbearable. We did mention this to the staff on reception. We also mentioned it to the man at the leisure facilities reception, who told us it would be just as cold as it was the day before!! We spoke to a few of the guests staying here and they all mentioned how cold it was.

However, although this was dissapointing, we had a lovely stay and it wouldn't stop us from returning! Just hope next time our feedback is acted upon. Thank you for two lovely holidays.

Thank you very much for your review, compliments and for returning for another visit. We are happy that you all enjoyed your time with us, but sorry that there were aspects of your stay that caused you disappointment.
Please be assured that we do heed any constructive comments, that are within our ability to accomplish and will definitely make a concerted effort to address the issue with the pool.

We stayed in November for a 3night break B&B on a special deal. The hotel is impressive, staff warm , friendly & polite . Our room had amazing sea views of St Ives harbour ....breathtaking and being November it was blowing a force 9 gale,so very dramatic!,only slight drawback is the hotel windows are not double glazed and the wind , was whistling straight through,we needed 2 additional heaters but it was a cold couple of days . The room was huge, clean, tastefully furnished pure luxury!
We ate one evening bar meal which was very nice, chose not to eat on further occasions due to uninspiring restaurant menu. Breakfast was a buffet style which means timing your cooked breakfast so that eggs aren't solid or tomatoes dried!! Young waitressing staff are hard working, friendly with good people skills.....older senior staff could learn from them in the dining room, less strutting !!!!!
We didnt use the leisure facilities so can't comment.
We enjoyed our stay at Treggena, would I pay full price....unlikely.

Room Tip: Jumpers and t-shirts for changing temperature in hotel!!

Thank you for your review and for your lovely compliments regarding our staff. Unfortunately, the grade two listing places limitations on what we may do to the windows or facade of the hotel. However, we are having a more effective weather stripping installed that will drastically reduce the draught and any rattling. We have regular special offers running, so I hope that we will see you again.

The hotel is offering excellent 2 night packages during the winter, we paid £99 for two nights including English Breakfast. A complimentary cream tea for two and 20% of meals. The 3 Course dinner was excellent. You cannot beat this for value

Room Tip: Worth the upgrade to a sea view room

I was treated to a couple of nights here by my other half for my birthday and it turned out to be a good choice. The hotel sits overlooking St Ives with terrific views from the grounds. It is a lovely old building with a castled roof so looks great and there is plenty of parking. First meeting with the staff at check in showed them to be charming and helpful, in fact we found all of them throughout our stay to be the same. Our room was in the West Wing with a four poster and those superb views over the bay. Everything was clean but this is an old building and it did have a few tired bits here and there but that did not detract from our visit. We had a deal that included an evening meal ( got a better price by contacting the hotel direct) and thought we would try both restaurants. The first night we ate in the brasserie and although we had one small hiccup which was attended to immediately the overall impression and food was good. Having seen the main restaurant at breakfast we decided it to be a bit soulless so returned to the smaller restaurant for my birthday meal. The staff were superb, gave us the table we asked for and after another good dinner brought in dessert with a candle in and all sang happy birthday to me...Thanks for that!
We actually stayed during the half term holiday so there were quite a few families around. It seemed they were well catered for as there is so much to do, loads of facilities and clubs etc. so they all had plenty to keep them happy. If you want to get out there is a short walk through the grounds to St Ives, the beaches and all it has to offer.
It was a relaxing and enjoyable stay. We met some nice people in the bar in the evening and even though we had checked out on the last day we returned after a short trip around the area for a cream tea before we headed home.

Room Tip: The west wing overlooks the town and bay
