Stayed for three days Tuesday to Friday. great location wonderfully kept gardens and generally what we expected with helpful staff who seemed more than willing to ensure your stay went well.
The exception was the Brasserie Restaurant where we were put for the first nights dinner since the main dining room was closed. This involved a comedy type customer service from a young presumably inexperienced girl who got very confused over what was on offer since there was a menu for the Brasserie and one for the main Restaurant which we wanted. Our wine was delivered to the wrong table and not served in the normal manner just eventually plonked on the table by a man decrying the abilities of the waitress .
The comedy was enhanced further by guests including ourselves asked to share a menu one between two or to wait for one to become avilable. There were only 12 or so diners tops in the Brasserie which made the unavailabilty of menus all the more mysterious. Particularly as you had to pre-book dinner with reception so thay knew how many to cater for that evening. The food was not cheap and very ordinary complimented by a faulty towers approach to dining.
By contrast the breakfasts served in the main dining area were possibly the best I have eaten having stayed in many hotels this year. The variety and standard of preparation was spot on orchestrated by an older well turned out gentleman and a pleasing Chef who have no doubt been employed there for many years , knew their job and it showed. There lies the problem I think. If this nice hotel wants to attract more business it should make sure that the standards set by the old hands are consistently carried out by the younger and I must say wanting crew employed in the Brasserie.
Otherwise I would recommend this hotel to anyone visting the St Ives area.
