We were 4 Aussies travelling around Cornwall without any hotels booked in the summer holidays! love a challenge ! We tried a few smaller hotels but fully booked! So called into St Ives Harbour Hotel at 4..30 pm & was relieved to get 2 rooms. Booked in for 1night which include dinner & breakfast all was really excellent, staff were very professional & helpful. We enjoyed enough to make a 2nd nights stay & do a day trip from the hotel! We did have to change rooms which was fine... Little upgrade never goes astray!
After staying at a number of hotels in the UK & Europe we all decided that this one was a favourite, last minute booking worked out great!

We went for our 10th anniversary so upgraded to a seaview room with a balcony. The view from the bedroom was stunning as it overlooked Porthminster Beach. The location was also brilliant as it was only a 5 minute walk to a gorgeous golden sandy beach. From my photos you would have thought you were abroad rather than in the UK.

We ate in the restaurant on the first night and the food, staff and ambience were faultless. We also made use of the spa facilities which were nice and contemporary.

The room had been refurbed and the ensuite was lovely, my only criticism would be that around the windows the paint was cracked and peeling and some of the corridors were looking a bit tired and in need of re-decoration and re-carpeting. However I would definately stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: The downstairs seaview rooms with a balcony are better that the higher rooms.

This Hotel just gets better and better. My husband and I have stayed many times over the years. We recently stayed for 3 nights after a few years break and could hardly believe our luck that the many improvements we had been aware of were so good we did not want to leave! From fantastic food, friendly staff, clean, comfortable modernised room, excellent pool and sauna to amazing views this hotel really does 'have it all' Looking forward to our next stay.

Room Tip: Inland facing room had a lovely partial sea view and had been modernised to a very good standard.

The location of this hotel is just about perfect. A short cut through the hotel gardens makes the walk into town a mere 5 minutes. Unfortunately however, when there's a function at the hotel, this amenity is not available to guests. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful and even when very busy were always happy to chat to guests. Breakfast and dinner were very good and we were given lovely tables by the window every time we ate. Our room was very well appointed and clean and the balcony allowed us to enjoy the spectacular views. Small niggles were a problem with the taps in the bedroom and the fact that we had to wait for 20 minutes to retrieve our car from the carpark! Overall though this is a hotel doing everything it can to make your stay an enjoyable one.

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a seaview room. It's a crime not to enjoy the spectacular views.

My partner and I are well known to the public and visit our family three times a year we always return to the harbour hotel it's classic and beautiful. The cocktails are made just perfect the views are stunning. We are completely left alone our privacy
Is respected crisp cotton sheets comfy bed I love the spa which is spotless. How ever much we are lured to local hotels we will stay loyal as its truly a beautiful place to stay. St Ives offers so many good places to eat we tend to walk into town to eat then back to the hotel for some lovely cosy cocktails. A lovely escape !

Really good 3 night stay for a wedding with family. Staff very friendly and helpful......room very clean, more than enough clothes space, wardrobe, hangers drawers etc.....beds/ room cleaned every day and towels changed. Weather very hot so asked for a room fan.....it was there within the hour at a very busy time!!! Wedding staff were so organised....everything was perfect....well done!!!! Would love to come again....must look out for offers. Loved the old lift, except for the idiots who couldn't use it properly!!!!valet parking was brill.

Room Tip: 202 and 207 were really good, but ask for help if not happy....staff were lovely

My partner and I stayed four nights here last week on two separate bookings (both though booking.com). Same price both rooms. First very nice sea view (which is why we booked to stay longer); second room much smaller, tatty room (very hot and poorly ventilated) without view. We were ready to check out there and then, but the staff switched us to a larger sea view room that had some temporary 'maintenance' problems re the plumbing. This room was not comfortable for a number of reasons (which I accept would not normally apply) or secure (we returned to find other guests in our room that evening). Following a poor dinner in the restaurant (my other half ordered duck 'medium done' and 45 minutes later received a 'well done' piece with the texture of rubber. Again we were ready to check out the next day. However, our visit was saved by Jenny (apparent senior member of staff), who changed us to a great room with a sea view and a complimentary bottle of fizzy that evening.

In summary, this is a hotel that we were almost ready to write off as a bad experience, but because of the actions of Jenny and some other staff, you can guarantee us returning (but we will make sure we're booked into one of the refurbished rooms next time).

My main piece of constructive feedback is that the inconsistency in the rooms needs to either be fixed ASAP or reflected in vastly different room rates. £350.00 for two nights (discounted on booking.com) in a room little bigger than the bed, without proper ventilation is a grossly inflated rate and not fair to those unlucky enough to be left in such a room. It should either be good enough to justify the rate or so cheap not to warrant complaint re size etc.

Look forward to returning later this year.

Michael

PS: once home I realised I left a pair of jeans in one of the rooms - many thanks to the staff in particular Analiese for locating and returning to me so efficiently and courteously
