Went to The Porthminster a few years ago and found it a lovely but perhaps a little tired and in need of some TLC. We booked a return however on the basis of those fantastic views and friends of ours had enjoyed a stay there recently. The old vintage lift is still there to show it's heritage but the rooms and the restaurant have been given the best kind of make over, we lovedit!!. The room was fab, the comfiest four poster, jacuzzi bath and amazing views out to sea. The bar was a delight, loved spending the evening in it gazing out to sea with a cocktail in my hand, really nice atmosphere, knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff, classy.. Restaurant has kicked on too, the best view in St Ives is still there but now the food has matched the surroundings and we stuffed ourselves silly with lots of lovely local fish and the scrummy cheesecake(PS.. do try the Porthminster Cafe on the beach as well...So good!).
Overall my partner and I felt totally rejuvinated, much like the hotel has been.,.. We'd forgotten how much we loved St Ives and were so pleased with the Porthminster that we're booked in for the New Year!!
PS.. Re previous review , parking is a doddle..leave your keys as they ask, tell them when you need your car and a chap gets it for you....More
