“Superb in every way”
Reviewed 30 March 2010

We have just returned from a 3 day stay at this small hotel, and can't rate it highly enough. The staff are friendly, professional and highly efficient, and Malcolm the owner is obviously held in high regard.
We had the Master Suite which was HUGE with a lovely balcony which had views of the bay. Unfortunately the weather did not allow us to take full advantage of this.
The breakfasts were super, and the 'light supper' was only light if you had the appetite of a horse!
Every element of this hotel has been carefully considered, and the result is a wonderful restful environment which has every home comfort. We will be back!

My wife and I have just come back from a 4 nite stay in the Blue Hayes and I have to say everything about this hotel is excellent. Upon arriving we were greeted by the manager Sue and owner Malcolm, who from the word go made us feel very welcome and provided some great information on attractions to see in Cornwall as well as recommended restaurants to eat in in the area.

We stayed in the the Master Suite room which was very spacious and modern and had a huge ensuite bathroom as welll as fantastic sea and beach views .The room like all of the hotel was also spotlessly clean and had a balcony to sit and relax on while having breakfast or coffee in the mornimng, while taking in the view.

Hotel location was also very good, being only a 10 minute scenic walk along the beach into St.Ives. The Breakfast Menu had a great choice and variety and could be served either in the dining room (which also has a great sea view) or in your room.

We would deifinitely recommend this hotel to anyone who is planning to have a holiday in this area, as it is easily accessible to many of Cornwalls main attractions (e.g. Eden Project,Lands End etc), but also provides a nice oasis of relaxation for those who just want to take it easy and not venture too far. Altogether it is a top rate hotel with very professional and friendly staff and management.

This was our first visit to Cornwall and it was wonderful. Blue Hayes is a most comfortable, well-situated hotel, an easy walk (downhill) to St. Ives, and with wonderful views. Its small size provides for great intimacy. The décor is contemporary and restful - just what you want in a seaside retreat. The sea views from the terrace are wonderful, so regardless of which room you have, you can always enjoy the view of sea, Godrevy Lighthouse and the town of St. Ives. Malcolm and his staff make you feel very welcome and assist in any way possible. We had a delightful and stimulating conversation with Malcolm at dinner time on the terrace - it was more like visiting a good friend than staying in a hotel. The "light suppers" are in fact substantial and delicious meals and the wine list is excellent. In the evening, you can relax in the bar or on the terrace, enjoying a drink or specialty coffee. Attention to detail is exquisite throughout the hotel. What can I say - it was a very special experience.

We like small comfortable hotels and with Blue Hayes we found a superb one in the internet. But how to get from Hamburg to St. Ives?
We thought it would be a good idea to go by train and so it was.
Deutsche Bahn offers a London Special Ticket: One way, 2nd class, from € 49,00 up p.Person. To get the best price, book exactly 3 months before.
You can interrupt your journey and so we stayed one night in Brussels and on our way back, one night in London.
We arrived London by Eurostar. On the train you can buy an "Oystercard" which makes London transport much cheaper (http//oyster.tfl.gov.uk provides all information you need). In London you have to change from Pancras to Paddington, which takes about an hour by tube. From Paddington to St. Ives it takes about 5 and a half hours. We bought 2 British Rail Passes in Germany, each for 2 journeys within a month. We recommend to book 1st class.
The trip from London to St. Ives was the best part of the journey. The weather was beautiful and the views were stunning, especially when the train goes directly along the coast, only the beach between the track and the sea.
You don´t need a car to explore Cornwall, you can do it by bus as well. First Group operates a vast grid of regular busses. We used it for our trips to Lands End (until 31st of August with top open busses), Penzance, Newquay and Truro. We enjoyed very much to get into contact with cornish people and english tourists on the bus.
We also visited Eden Projekt and The Lost Gardens of Heligan with a bus of Oates Travel, which picks you up in front of Blue Hayes Hotel.
We also recommend to walk the St. Michaels Way south to Marazion. You can return by bus.
So it was a very interesting and because of Blue Hayes a luxury holiday we spent in Cornwall. Blue Hayes Private Hotel was our hotel for our first visit to Cornwall and it will be first choice for our next.

Blue Hayes definately lives up to its good reputation!
Stayed in the Garden Suite. We loved the access from our room onto a private patio area , the luxurious bathroom and all the liitle extra's that went to making our stay even more special !
Attention to detail in this Hotel is exemplary.
Malcom and his staff made us feel so welcome. Even though it was our first stay we were made to feel like old friends!
I cannot recommend it enough and would say that if you are looking for somewhere wonderful to celebrate a special occasion or just enjoy a relaxing break in St Ives - this is your place !!!

The Blue Hayes Hotel is a truly wonderful place, set high above St Ives in a lovely tranquil setting. The views over the bay are stunning! It's about a 15 minute walk into the centre of St Ives, but could be a little tough on anyone with mobility problems as it's a steep walk back! However, the location is superb. We stayed in the Garden Room, which has a very large luxury bathroom and it's own private patio area opening out onto the lovely gardens. The place was pristine throughout, and the food was wonderful, breakfast being a feast! enough to set you up for the day easily! The staff were really good and nothing was too much trouble. The owner Malcolm was so welcoming and surprised us with a complimentary bottle of champagne as we were there for our 30th Wedding Anniversary. All in all, a great place to stay and we would strongly recommend it to anyone!
