A large group of us stopped here for food, without a reservation, and it was well worth it. We were lucky to get a table as they were turning people away soon afterwards. We had to wait for them to prepare the table, but as they sat us in a lounge area with drinks this wasn't a problem.

The food was very good - for starters we opted for Tomato Soup, Mussels, prawn cocktails and Camembert - all were delicious. For the main course the special burger and chilli con carne received the most praise. As a testament to the portion size nobody wanted pudding!

The Lodge offers great service and a good atmosphere, and is definitely worth a visit.

Called into the Lodge for evening meal on spur of moment having driven past it earlier in the day. Couldn't quite make out what sort of eatery it was on our approach. Very surprised when we went in. Decorated in modern fashion, very spacious (loved the lights!). Choose our own table, had Camembert & prawn cocktail to start (lovely) Thia Green Curry (fabulous) and burger for my partner who said it was a superior burger. Good value and nice staff would recommend.

We booked just one night B and B so as to visit Tate and St Ives. The Lodge at Balnoon was ideal, being very reasonably priced and quite close with no parking problems. Rooms were simple and well equipped, breakfast was excellent.
We did not eat in but notice that recent reviews are very good. We would have been a bit limited as vegetarians [although maybe we could have contacted ahead and arranged more choice.]
The people we met were most obliging and friendly, our sort of place, we will definitely come back.

I was sitting at my desk in my office at home on July 12th at 11am and decided to go to Cornwall to see my dear mother who is in a care home at Carbis Bay. I tried lots of guest houses and hotels only to be told that they were full. Just about to give up, I stabbed at the small red dot on Google maps..

I landed on The Lodge at Balnoon and what a stroke of luck! Colin said they had one room left and we could have it for two nights. I paid with a debit card and all was set. After extricating my wife from work, we travelled from our home in Northamptonshire and arrived at about 8:30pm. We were welcomed and booked in. As the food finishes at 9pm, we decided to eat before going to the room.

The food was excellent! We both had Chicken & Crispy Bacon Salad, which was devine and there was plenty of it. Prices were very good too at just £8.95 each. We also had a shot of Glenmorangie which slid down a treat!

The room was very nicely decorated and well appointed. The shower/toilet was a mini wet room and the basin, although in the main room, was perfectly situated. No steaming up of the mirror after someone had a shower, I could shave and my good lady could don her makeup without having to wipe down the mirror! The bed was very comfortable and we both had a good nights sleep.

The view in the morning from the window was awesome. Out over the moors towards Leylant, although all we could see was countryside. Walking about the property in the early morning was a delight. There are all sorts of nooks and crannies to explore, but breakfast called and that can not be ignored.. And we were not disappointed. It was cooked well and served with a smile.

Sadly it was only for two days this time, but we will be back again very soon.. Thanks Colin and Crew.

We travel to St Ives regularly for our holiday but had never tried The lodge for a meal ....we noticed on our visit two years ago that it was closed for refurbishment so decided to eat there on this visit. On entering the lounge it appears to have a strange atmosphere...modern with traditional....the furnishings are modern and the walls are traditional stone, beams have been painted white. The barman was pleasant and helpful however we had to wait 3/4hour for our meal to be served and we weren't the only family waiting this length of time. When the meal finally arrived it was cooked well but was "minimalistic". When we received the bill we felt it was very overpriced for what we had. For the same price, a mile down the road in Lelant, we had a bottle of wine, a soft drink and two very full courses compared to two large glasses of wine, soft drink and three minimalistic plates at the Lodge. To summarise, food, what we received was nice but service was abysmal and we felt, overpriced.

Your comment the service was " abysmal " (definition of that word is appalling) is just ridiculous,. Just because you waited an extra 15 minutes most probably to down the road.
It says quite clearly on our menu " Our meals are homemade and may take a little longer to prepare than normal and not the microwaved stuff you are used to in 8 minutes 30 seconds.
We do quality in good portions and our customers travel for miles to appreciate our fresh food.
