“Great break!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 October 2013

We recently spent 4 nights at Atlantic Heights with Tony & Carol. They made us really welcome, they were very friendly and down to earth. We stayed in Room 4 which had glorious views, some nice touches of quality including a jacuzzi style bath a really comfortable bed. The breakfasts were really good with fresh ingredients of your choice. It was only a couple of minutes walk to the beach, 4-5 mins to the town. We couldn't fault it and we would stay again without any hesitation. Thank you Tony & Carol for a fabulous mini break.

Don't be put off by the approach to the guest house which is passed several garages. Parking is available which is ideal for a town such as St Ives.
Tony and Carol made us feel very welcome. Room 4, although a climb up several staircases, offers a breathtaking view of Porthmeor Beach. Breakfasts were wonderful and freshly prepared.

Room Tip: Room 4 has the spectacular views.

It was the first time we spent our holidays in Cornwall (beginning of September) as well as the first time in a B&B. Having read through all the reviews we will be repetitive in writing our lines. What had been said by other guests we can fully support!

Having arrived in St. Ives, Carol and Tony gave us a very warm welcome, offering us a cup of tea and chatting in the living room. Moving into our room (#4), Tony even carried our large suitcase up to the second floor. Room #4 has a breathtaking view over St. Ives and Porthmeor Beach. The room is a little small but nothing in the room could ever be a reason for complaint. Everything was perfectly clean, the fluffy towels changed / dried every day and we loved the smell of the bed-linen. The bathroom was equipped with a whirlpool (unfortunately we did not have the opportunity to enjoy this).

Tony and Carol prepared a wonderful breakfast every day. You could choose among a variety of scrambled eggs, boiled eggs (and Tony prepared the best soft boiled egg we have had so far), toast, mushrooms, tomatoes, sausage, beans, croissants and much more. Tea, coffee, juices as well as cereals were served on the side table. Nothing you would miss and everything tasty as can be.

We stayed for 7 nights and – to be honest – we felt like at home visiting our families.
We loved to chat with Carol and Tony in the morning, telling them about our activities the day before, showing them our photos we had taken and we would have loved spending a day together with them!

Tony, being a passionate fisherman, even fished and disemboweled two mackerels for us, which we barbecued on the beach at night (we have not heard something of that kind, but Coop sells one-way barbecues). As it was getting dark until our fish was ready to enjoy, we had to use our fingers (no chance to use a fork in the darkness ).

As we rented a car at Heathrow Airport, we were able to see a lot around St. Ives: Tintagel, Lanhydrock House (a must with more than 30 rooms and a wonderful garden), the lost Gardens of Heligan, Falmouth, St. Rose in Justland, Lizard Point, Kynance Cove, Saint Michel’s Mount, Penwith Peninsula with a marvelous sunset at Land’s End, the Minnack Theatre (don’t forget to buy a ticket for a performance – it’s great fun and a great scenery right at the cliffs), catamaran tour with Marine Discovery in Penzance, 10 miles walk along the South West Coast Path to Zennor …

Being from Austria we could not get enough of the sea and the beaches around. Every minute in Cornwall was as wonderful as could be (we only had half a day rain) and so was our stay at the Atlantic Heights with Carol and Tony.

Before we left we were lucky enough to book room #4 again for September 2014. And since then, we keep counting the days to see Carol and Tony again.

Pay them a visit, you’ll never be disappointed! Leaving on Sep 7 back to Vienna we had to fight back tears as we loved the place so much!

Lots of hugs and kisses to you, Carol and Tony!!!

Look no further ! You have found the best place to stay in St Ives. Tony and Carol are the perfect hosts in a wonderful location. Every morning we woke from sleeping on a bed that was like a "Cloud" and were treated to an uninterrupted view straight out to sea ! The room is of the highest standard with all the facilities you could need including a Fridge for fresh milk in your first morning drink, still looking out to sea..... Breakfast is the next delight, Tony and Carol make sure that every breakfast is just as you like it. We have never had a better breakfast wether it be a full English or the home made croissants or Carols fantastic home made fruit cocktail, yogurt and compote. We were even treated to Carols Cream Tea one afternoon, left in our room as a surprise. As you can see this couple give 110 % . They are the most warm and friendly couple you could wish to meet and made us feel like friends within minutes of our arrival. They made our holiday complete and we really didn't want to come home. Thanks a million Tony and Carol

Room Tip: Always get a sea view if you can !

My family and I spent our short holidays in St. Ives and we had the privilege to stay at Atlantic Heights. Having traveled and experienced many guesthouses and hotels (including the extravagant ones), Atlantic Heights was by far one of the best places in the world that our family really enjoyed Atlantic Height is brilliant located, merely a short walk from the beach and the town centre. The rooms are well decorated with brilliant sea view. Breakfast, prepared to order, are excellent, traditional and tasty ( fruit salad with yogurt is a must try). Carol and Tony are friendly, truly brilliant people that we would be thankful to have as our friends ( I am grateful to have Tony sharing his life stories as we were sitting in the garden porch looking at sunset ). Overall, this is a place to come when you are staying to St. Ives.

To say we struck lucky with Atlantic Heights is an understatement. Having decided i needed a break from work i'd left booking till the last minute and suddenly hankered after St. Ives where i'd spent many a happy childhood holiday with my parents. I blitzed all the guesthouses in the top 30 of TripAdvisor and thought i'd left it too late. Only Atlantic Heights had the approximate dates i was after and boy am i pleased about that.
We were greeted by Carol & Tony and from the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome. My 7 year old Sam immediately took a shine to Tony (so much so that by the end of the holiday, bar a goatee, he looked like a mini-me)!
Once parked up (free parking) we were shown to our room. We had room 1 which was converted into a family room for us. The views are fantastic and you can see the golden sands of Porthmoer beach which is only a 2 minute walk from the guesthouse. The room had a mini telescope & binoculars which was a great idea.
The breakfasts are splendid with a great choice ranging from cereal, to fruit to yoghurt to the full english. One of these breakfasts will last you until the evening before you're hungry again, no matter how much exercise you get!
Tony & Carol were only too happy to help with recommendations of places to visit & things to do, and places to eat, all of which was very helpful.
The town centre is only a 5 minute walk away too so location wise even this can't be faulted.
St. Ives as a place hasn't changed at all from when i was a small boy with it's independent restaurants, bars & shops and really is such a beautiful place.
It goes to show that when you get such a great combination as we did you can't beat the British holiday.
I enjoyed Atlantic Heights so much that the day before we were due to leave Tony & Carol mentioned they'd had a cancellation and had it had been our room i would have taken more days off.
I can't recommend this highly enough. I'd go back there in a shot. Roll on next year.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 1 which has fantastic views of Porthmoer beach.

Having read the other reviews in the Excellent category I am not sure I can add more without being repetitive to be honest, however, I support every word of them. My wife and I stayed for 3 nights in early September and to say we were impressed is an understatement. Tony even carried our case to the room. My wife is very fussy on standards and the Atlantic Heights impressed her greatly. She checked everywhere in our room for dirt and announced that even the hair dryer was perfectly clean. So top marks there Tony and Carol. The quality of the furnishings are excellent and, even though we were on the top floor in room 5 (no sea view), the shower was powerful and hot. The basin was huge too, you could bath a small child in it. Fresh towels and floor mat every day as well. The breakfasts were among the best you would get any where. All fresh ingredients, cooked to order in any combination and quantity you wanted - amasing fresh fruit salad. In the family bedroom, Internet TV, fast WiFi Internet, fridge, Tea and Coffee with cookies and chocolate fingers, thick carpet and so quiet at night. We were woken only by the gulls and the smell of bacon and eggs cooking (close the window if this is not something you enjoy) around 8am. Breakfast is between 8 and 9am only. Frankly, with Tony and Carol's skill, knowledge and enthusiasm - the whole experience has to be a 10 out of 10.

The only slight difficulty was the booking as the owner/agent was not that easy to get hold of.

Room Tip: Do try for a sea view room, it is worth the extra.
