“New year in St.Ives”
Reviewed 2 January 2014

Just returned from a three night stay in The Nook. The staff were friendly and helpfull so checking in was painless. Our room was a little small but clean and comfortable the only problem we had was that it was to hot. Despite turning both radiators off the room stayed continually uncomfortably hot, we had to sleep with the window open despite the poor weather. Breakfast is really good and there is definitely no need to leave the dining room hungry. There is a sitting room which guests can use which is very comfortable.
On the negative side the rooms were not serviced New Year's Day which I believe they should have been or at least extra towels should have been made available. The hotel does make a small charge for parking is not advertised.
The main issue for me was the location, this hotel is situated at the top of a very steep hill so walking back after a day or evening out is challenging if your not reasonably fit.
Overall a good stay.

Room Tip: Avoid room 3, it has a tiny bathroom and room 10 smells a little. Room 4 is a little small but ok ot...

I booked my room at the Nook on Booking.com and was happy with everything about the room, the breakfast, even the parking. The parking is a bit tight but it was soon resolved. The staff are very welcoming with no job too small. However on leaving i was given my bill which was £20 more than what booking had quoted me, i can't see this as the Nooks fault but as i was on a budget it was annoyed by this.

We decided to go to Cornwall for our annual October holiday and chose St Ives as it is such a well known hub of cultural and artistic interest. We found The Nook online and after reading reviews on Tripadvisor decided to book a double room with ensuite shower for 3 nights. We chose the option of a room with a sofa as thought it would make the room more versatile for our stay.
We turned up an hour earlier than planned, so our room was still in the process of being prepared but we were settled in the lounge with a welcoming pot of tea and taken through registration by the friendly staff whilst we waited just a few minutes.
The room was a lovely size, well furnished, and pleasantly decorated in a fresh contemporary style. We were on the ground floor so possibly noisier than the rooms above and backing onto the car park, but we didn't really notice much disturbance. The use of the sofa was a great benefit as hoped, very comfortable. The only niggles with the room was that the bathroom door wouldn't shut and as condensation was a bit of a problem in the bathroom the fan had to be on most of the time so the noise from the fan was a bit loud. We were a little concerned at how soft the mattress was when we first tried it, but we both slept very well so that concern was completely dispelled.
The breakfast was tasty, all freshly cooked, no food kept lukewarm under lights. The choices were good, even for vegetarians like me, and plenty of extra toast was offered if wanted so there was no need to start the day hungry. The only problem with the breakfast was that it finished serving early so no lie-ins if you wanted to eat.
The car park is small, and the roads around are difficult to park on, either parking not allowed, roads packed or too narrow, so do make sure you reserve a parking spot if you are coming by car - luckily we had done so as it would have been an unnecessary irritation.
St Ives is hilly, with a lot of steep, narrow roads, and The Nook is on top of one of those hills, but at least the steep climb back to the hotel each day meant it helped us walk off all those extra calories from the lovely pasties and ice-creams.
We had a wonderful holiday, a lovely stay and would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Room 1 downstairs is a good size with a sofa.

We booked a double room with shower ensuite for 3 nights and were given the smallest room that we ever stayed in. We stayed in Room 6 and the dimensions of the room were about 8ft by 11ft. We could barely function here and had to use our engineering skills to get our luggage and ourselves into the room. The people at the Nook were lovely and helpful and the breakfast was quite satisfactory as was the condition of the guest house. If the room was truly habitable we could have given the nook better marks. Also, if you stay here be prepared to use a taxi for the return trips up the hills from the town center.

Room Tip: Please discuss the room size prior to booking to avoid a most unpleasant experience.

This is an old house operating as a bed and breakfast. There are 6 guest rooms on the second floor but no elevator so beware if, like us, you are of a certain age and have heavy luggage. Our room was quite small and we could hardly manage to get around the bed. The owners, Louise and John and their staff, Vicky and Tamsyn, are very accommodating. I think they hope to make up for the lack of amenities with a warm, friendly welcome and they almost pull it off. There were no sea views from our room and it was a 15 minute walk from the hotel into town. The walk can be pleasant but unfortunately we encountered a lot of wet and blustery weather. The walk from town to the hotel is more difficult as it is uphill and at night there is little illumination. Breakfast was made to order or you can opt for yogurt, cereal, bread on the lighter side. It is a clean, spartan accommodation but nothing special.

Room Tip: If they are not fully booked you can ask to see the room before you settle in.

It was our wedding anniversary on the 3rd November and so decided to go away for the weekend to celebrate. St Ives was our choice of destination. A quick search came up with The Nook. We were so glad we found this charming, cosy, welcoming guest house.
The breakfast was lovely, with a good choice on offer. The small team would even go "off menu" as they aimed to please.
The room was spotless, warm and very comfy. Snuggly would be a good word, if it was a real word. We and a lovely view across the bay to Hayle Sands (Number 4). Liked the art work, fridge and TV.
Best of all was the welcome, though. The staff really make the effort and we were very grateful that they helped make our weekend such a memorable one, especially Vicky.
Bit of a walk into town, but a Taxi back was only £3.00, when you have had a good night.
Perfect thanks.

Very cute room, lovely comfortable bed, had such excellent sleep here, really great staff. Location was pretty good with a short walk down to the waterfront, walk back at night with a full tummy takes a little longer up those hills but good exercise. Breakfast was decent enough. Shower is a bit tricky to get working right but that would not stop me from staying there again.
