From our experience, we agreed that this place was really a nice BB rather than a hotel. The room we were in had a fabulous view and was exceptionally clean. The breakfast was lovely and the hosts were accommodating and friendly.

However, our bathroom was TINY which was disappointing; expecting a hotel I assumed we'd have a bath and a window of time for breakfast rather than the only offered option of 8:30am. Also, I mentioned we were on our honeymoon when we booked but no mention was made of this during our stay which was slightly deflating.

It is extremely good value for money as it was reasonably priced but not a hotel.

The Borthalan Hotel is very conveniently located in Carbis Bay just outside St. Ives. It is close to the beach and to lots of other tourist spots. We had a lovely short break with our friends over the Queen's Diamond Jubilee weekend in June 2012. The proprieters were very welcoming and provide a great service throughout that made for a wonderful customer experience. Our room (No. 1), which was ensuite, was clean and tidy if slightly on the small side and overlooked the driveway. The breakfast was superb with us being to order pretty anything from a full English to toast. Cereal, fruit juice and yoghurt was readily available in the dining room. All in all, the Borthalan is a super little hotel that we'd visit again :-)

Room Tip: The rooms at the front (Nos 5 & 6) with a sea view are by far the best.

Have recently got back from a 4 night stay at the Borthalan Hotel. Had a really lovely break
and wished we could have stopped a little longer. Very good position for the train station although we did walk into St.Ives most days on the coast path as was such a lovely walk.
Good breakfast each morning. Our Double room was a little on the small side but the vi.ews were fantastic.

I like many other visitors to the Borthalan Hotel have had a very lovely stay. Martin was so welcoming and very friendly and instantly we felt like we were at home. Me and my husband had taken my mum down to Cornwall as she had never been there before, she absolutely loved St Ives and all the beautiful sites we went to see, but to add to that Martin made our visit with his caring friendly approach to us and to all his other guests. It was also a lovely surprise that on Easter Sunday when we went down for breakfast we found chocolate Easter Eggs on the table, now how many other hotels would do that for you. We will definately be going back to stay at the Borthalan as we had a lovely time. The hotel was very clean and had a cosy homely feeling, breakfast was also top notch. My only gripe was that the rooms we had in the loft area were very difficult to move about in due to the low ceiling and beams. Me and my husband are both tall and found the en-suite hard to move about in without nearly bumping your head on the beams, I think as late arrivals we drew the short straw regarding the rooms. However that has not deterred us in any way as the host has made it more attractive for us to return to the Borthalan, there we know we will always be made to feel welcome and be given top class treatment as that is the norm. See you next time we come to St Ives, Martin and Margaret.

Margaret and Martin were fantastic, they made us feel so welcome and went out of their way to help their guests. They provided us with train timetables and even knew where the free parking was when we planning our walks.

The breakfasts were legendary-we did two long walks over the weekend and always came back with a backpack full of food because we didn't really get hungry after their breakfasts!

We were there over Easter, and on Easter Sunday all the guests received an Easter egg at Breakfast, which was very well received by everyone and a lovely thought on their part.

The room was clean and comfortable, and there was no noise.

We would definitely stay there if we ever go back to St Ives.
