“A joy to stay here.”
Reviewed 6 June 2014

We stayed here some years ago, and accommodation has changed considerably since. We had the Captains Cabin........a lovely, airy, spacious room, with modern en-suite facilities, a large comfy bed, and fantastic access to the terrace bar.
On our arrival we were a little concerned to find that the parking we'd reserved was not immediately adjacent to the Sloop, (I struggle to walk any distance due to "dicky hip") but the staff could not have been more helpful. Three of them combined forces to sort us out, and all was well. We ate in the restaurant and enjoyed excellent food at a very good price. Breakfasts were lovely, certainly plenty to eat, and we had a window table each morning.
We stayed here for three nights and wish it could have been longer. The staff were all lovely, and although the beer is on the pricey side, we don't drink too much of it, so not too bothered.
All in all, a great stay, a great venue and I have to speak as I find......"great staff" !!!!!!
We will be back.

Room Tip: Captains Cabin is lovely. Sea views too....!!!! There are however, some steps to be conquered in ac...

We had to seek shelter from a heavy downpour and saw the Sloop Inn, I asked if we could take children in and was sent to the rear of the pub, then children were told not to touch fruit machine (don't put it where you send children then)! Children were finishing a sausage roll and were told they couldn't eat on the premises, so then had to take sausage rolls off the children.
Generally found the staff rude.
We spent 5 days in St Ives and loved it apart from the Sloop Inn if they don't welcome families with children at least put a sign outside!
Certainly won't be going there again!

Overpriced, miserable staff, waitress seen coming out of toilet and didnt wash hands, big hole down front of black tights not attractive.basic food presentation, miserable atmosphere, customers made to feel they should order more or if finished get out. Dissapointed as was expecting good old atnosphere of old cornish pub! Real let down. Shame that there is little choice to visit old pub like this so people are always going to go here but you will find a nicer welcoming atmosphere elsewhere.would not visit again,

Always pop into the Sloop when we visit St Ives, Never been disappointed over the years, Always good food at reasonable prices and well behaved dogs are allowed in, Another plus point, we had a lovely Crab sandwich on our last visit which was absolutely beautiful we will be returning.

Last weekend my wife and I were down for our son's wedding and stayed in Diddy Cot one of the rooms of the Sloop Inn which though basic was extremely comfortable and clean with clean towels every day. We also had our evening meals at the Captains Table and found that they were very good value for money being freshly cooked using local produce. Also a parking permit is provided
for guests.
All in all a good stay.

Been on holiday in St Ives for the past 2 and half weeks, got to try a variety of experiences in that time - some good and some, well - experiences to say the least!

The Sloop is in an ideal location on the sea front, not particularly comfortable inside if you're claustrophobic but nevertheless a cosy and warm setting. Sitting outside is what it's about; the view absolutely awesome - if you can overcome other people's nicotine clouds (non-smoker) - but anyhow that's your choice.

The staff are, at best inconsistent, Ellie one of the waitresses is head and shoulders above most there; makes an effort to learn the names of customers and genuinely seems nice and very attentive. Some of the bar staff are at best, rude and would benefit from a course in smiling; especially when you're being crippled with some of the prices there. £4.10 a pint - you've been warned!

The food was satisfactory and as other reviews indicate general pub grub; nothing spectacular for the prices charged, nevertheless the service was quick and plates were empties so it couldn't have been that bad I guess!

To sum it up: great location, some good some bad (same anywhere really staff) ok food and extortionate prices - not much more to say really.

(It's cheaper around the corner at the Golden Lion and the food is better!)
