My partner and I were originally staying in a friend's cottage but things changed and we needed to find accommodation ASAP...

I had emailed Rivendell on Monday 28th Dec, with a need to find 3 days accommodation (including NYE) and we were lucky enough that the twin room (room 7) which was the only room they had left. Email response from Angela and Barry was super quick, despite me emailing past 10pm. We were very grateful that they took the booking and I'm sure it was the last room in St Ives! (I had emailed about 20 places - hotels, bnbs and airbnb...)

When we checked in, Barry greeted us on arrival and was so friendly and helpful. The front room (and house in general) was lovely, inviting, cozy and warm. Barry helped to drop our (many!) bags into the room and kindly gave us information about the place. FYI Room 7 is on the top floor - from memory 3 flights of stairs.

The Room: was lovely, super clean and spacious. As we had to take the twin room, we asked Barry if we could move the beds together and he was absolutely fine with it. Really liked how relax he was about it. The beds were super comfy. Next to the beds, there was a seating area with 2 nice lounge chairs, in front of the cupboard. The bathroom was spotless and well laid out. The shower was a tad slow but I didn't mind at all with the lovely surroundings.

Breakfast: we had breakfast twice in our stay and the food was good. Just what we needed over the festive season. You can pretty much ask for whatever you'd like - so even when I just wanted x1 poached egg on toast this was fine. On our first breakfast, we had 20 mins to be out the door, they whipped up my breakfast so quickly - I was grateful. During this time, we also met Angela and her daughter - both who just like Barry, were so friendly and warm.

Nice touches: in the reception area, there was a bowl of sweets you could help yourself too; biscuits in the room next to the kettle; in the hallway, there was a cupboard with numerous board games you could help yourself too; on New Year's Day on our breakfast table - was a lovely box of chocolates and card from Barry and Angela; they were super relaxed about what time we left on the 1st January and even let our car stay parked in the driveway well after the check out time.

Good to note: the bnb is an 8 min walk from town. From town, you will have to walk up a hill / a number of stairs - but the view is worth it. The location is fantastic.

Restaurant recommendations: We've stayed in St Ives twice before and eaten out ALOT there. This trip, my top 3 recommendations would be i) Rum Shack - you can't book but its SO worth the wait. They have a happy hour as well. Crab sandwiches were divine. ii) Porthminster Kitchen. The fish was fantastic there and every table has a view. Book early in peak times. iii) Rajpoot, the indian curry house. Tasty curries if you need some spice during your stay.

Thank you Angela, Barry and their lovely daughter who served us breakkie on the 1st. We had a brill time and if we ever need a bnb again in St Ives - we'll definitely be back!
I would absolutely recommend this anyone staying in St Ives.

Room tip: The street is pretty quiet in general so we had no noise trouble at all.

Lovely room overlooking the harbour. Spotlessly clean. The breakfast was second to none, all you could eat and really set you up for the day exploring. When we came back to change there was a nice touch with a Halloween chocolate on our pillows.

Super location and very close to restaurants and beaches. The owners are lovely, welcoming and very helpful. The breakfast was included and it was perfect as well. Free parking is available as well which is necessary in St. Ives.

Rivendell sets its own standard in hospitality and quality. Angela has been a wonderful caring host and her house breathes an atmosphere of style, beauty and warmth. Rivendell keeps a great balance between personal touch & professional standards. We can recommend Rivendell Guesthouse to everyone who is looking for really good place to stay in St. Ives.
