We are locals in these parts so it was a bit strange to go away for a night so close to home. It was certainly worth it though as we were treated to a magical short stay at this gem of an hotel overlooking Falmouth Bay. Tresanton was the first boutique luxury hotel in Cornwall and while there have been several "me too" competitors arrive in the ten years since it re-opened it retains its reputation as the market leader. We know the Roseland like the back of our hand so exploring the area wasn't on the agenda - not that it mattered as we immersed ourself in the casual but precise ambience that they have striven to achieve here. Staff are relaxed and very well motivated, service assured and willing. Views apart, the evening atmosphere, with cleverly placed candles and windy stairs is magical. A comfortable, homely lounge, bracing outdoor terraces and a fresh restaurant complete the picture . The food in the Restaurant was good if not exciting but the breakfast was outstanding.

I visit Tresanton several times a year and my experience is at total variance with that of the previous reviewer. Perhaps he was looking for something different in the first instance and found that a popular hotel, in Summer and in the extremely busy seaside town of St Mawes, did not meet his expectations of solitary luxury. For myself, it 'does what it says on the tin'. The location is perfect, the staff friendly and helpful, the food excellent, and rooms pleasant and well appointed. In my opinion, there is nothing to match it for many miles around.

A "think yourself lucky you are staying here" greeting by the receptionist, squawking babies and small children in the public areas all afternoon and into the early evening, a catalogue of errors ar dinner, a resident's dog yapping at 07:30 a.m., no shower gel. I could go on but this is definitely not the place for a peaceful luxury break.

The only pluses were a room with a great view and a balcony (which we paid handsomely for) and no kids under 6 at dinner.

Give it a miss. There is a distinct lack of attention to detail and because of this the actual experience in no way matches up to its bloated reputation.

My wife and I have just returned from our Honeymoon at Tresanton and we had a most amazing stay.

We were welcomed as soon as we arrived, our car and luggage dealt with and before we knew it we were in our lovely sea view room with all of our luggage there waiting for us.

We had a fantastic few days, we ate in the restaurant twice and on each occasion found the menu varied and the food delicious! The Scallops were divine!

We also had a day on the hotels yacht. This was a real treat and although seemed expensive at the time of booking, was worth every penny! The yacht is beautiful, the crew very friendly and the provided picnic delicious!

Overall, a great hotel to go to for a real treat. Helpful and attentive staff made our stay very memorable.

We have just returned from 2 nights at the Tresanton. It is really a lovely hotel in a beautiful location. I cannot fault the staff or the service. We had a really nice large room with a view of the sea.The furnishings are high quality and tasteful. All areas of the hotel are comfortable and you can relax there. The hotel was full but didn't feel busy.
The only thing I would comment on is the restaurant . We had a nice meal in the hotel one of the nights we stayed, we had planned to eat there both nights and decided not to.
The food is nice, and so is the service , but not anything special, and it is quite expensive.

This is a first class boutique hotel well positioned in the village. Our room was comfortable well maintained and properly cleaned each day. There are views of St Mawes and the harbour from all the rooms that I could see and all comon areas. The restaurant is of international standard, our only comment being that is it a set price so no chance of a light salad. Having said that, none of the above is 'IT'. What is 'IT' is the first class service, not just in the obvious places but at every level in the hotels operations. We had a very enjoyable stay and look forward to returning.

Our best friends had their wedding here. The hotel is small, chic, and in a beautiful spot. hence rooms are cosy rather than spacious and it's 5 star pricey. BUT the food is wonderful, probably the best wedding food I have ever had, given the constraints of catering for 30 in one go. The service was excellent - full of personal touches and going the extra mile. I saw a couple of media people from London - I sense it's a bit of a well kept secret!
