“Unexpected excellence...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2014

We had looked at other reviews before booking a table for dinner, and in particular to the recommendation to not judge a book by its cover. We had a great upstairs table with fabulous views, accompanied by great fish and chips and chicken schnitzel - most definitely worth a visit.

“Good food, great location, nice atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2014

Good fish and chip shop with an above average menu selection. Food quality was very good.

Service was good and a nice atmosphere to enjoy some tradational seaside fish and chips while looking out over the harbour.

“Great food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2014

Dropped by for a light lunch. Staff were friendly and we were swiftly seated. Our party had a mackerel melt, a roasted veg melt and Moules frites. Food was served in good time and was enjoyed by all. We sat on the ground floor but subsequently found there is 1st floor seating which would have given good views over the harbour. Prices were reasonable. Staff efficient and attentive.

Bakery products such as scones, cakes and meringues looked excellent although we didn't sample

The only downside, which was completely out of the control of the restaurant staff was another party with two noisy and unruly children whose parents appeared unable or unwilling to control or ask to make less noise or be considerate of other visitors. Fortunately such distractions are rare and it was just bad luck we were there at the same time.

Would visit again on our next trip to St Mawes.

“Still a surprise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 July 2014 via mobile

Don't be fooled by the slightly utilitarian ground floor. The food here has been consistently good for over a year now. The fish burger today was outstanding and reminded me of one of the best meals I had in Thailand many years y. Well worth a visit.

“Good quality, lovely view”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2014

It's not cheap - probably the most expensive meal we had on our trip - but the quality of the food justified the price and we left feeling well fed. Nice views of the harbour from some of the upstairs table.

If you're going anywhere near peak times you'll need to book - if you walk up at 7pm on a summer evening and expect a table you may get a rather grumpy response... not ideal but possibly understandable if you're the twentieth person to ask in the last ten minutes! Solve the problem by booking ahead.
