Owner description: This brooding 13th-century castle sits on the rugged and spectacular Atlantic coast in Cornwall, which recalls the myth and mystery associated with King Arthur and Merlin the magician. New exhibition explores the stories linking Tintagel to King Arthur which includes a 3D model of the site illustrating how it has changed over the centuries. Dog friendly and child friendly, this is a great day out for all the family.

Very expensive for what there is.
I liked the fact that all the ads tell you this is where Arthur was born but then you get to the place and the info video tells you no it isn't !
Go and see Dunluce Castle instead that's a real castle on a cliff.
As someone else said you could see most of the stuff by just walking round the coast.
Hard sell by staff to pay extra to get access to all these other English Heritage sites.

“Amazing views”
Reviewed 17 July 2012 via mobile

Make sure you also visit the very old church at the top of the hill before venturing to explore the ruins downs the hill. Lots of walking, but so much history to be seen and absorbed. The views are spectacular and well worth the moderate fee. We saw people tucked into little nooks having a lovely picnic out of the wind the day we visited.

“Breathtaking Views (Well worth the climb)”
Reviewed 15 July 2012

During our recent family holiday in Cornwall we visited Tintagel Castle. For my wife & I this was our second visit but for the other four members of our group this was their first time.

Luckily for us it didn’t rain during our visit which was a blessing because the walk from the village to the castle ruins is quite a hike with some very steep steps along the way and very little cover if it had of rained.

Steeped in legends and myths, this is definitely a good place to visit for young and old alike with plenty of photo opportunities of the ruins and the beautiful Cornish coastline along the way.

There is a jeep service (£2.00 pp.) available to transport you back up to the car park but the walk up the road isn’t as bad as some people make out (says he taking a breath after typing this sentence).

All in all, a good time was had by all of us and Tintagel is a definite 'must see' attraction

VISITOR TIPS

a) Wear good sturdy footwear (some steps can be slippery in the wet)
b) Take a coat of fleece on overcast days as you could easily get caught out by wind or rain and it’s quite a long walk back to the car park
c) Very steep steps in places so watch where you are walking & take your time
d) If you have a fear of heights, suffer with vertigo or find it difficult negotiating steep steps then you may (unfortunately) have to give this one a miss

“Absolutely stunning”
Reviewed 11 July 2012

Yes, it is a strenuous hike up the cliffs to these sites, but I promise you, it is worth every drop of sweat. See the stone walls, the storage tunnel/cave, and the magnificent views. Really, don't miss this.
