Church Farm Cottage
Reviewed 12 April 2012

We recently stayed at the ancestral barn with our three children and had a lovely time. The barn has been restored to a high standard and was very charming and comfortable. We loved the high quality linens, good beds and roll top bath. The fireplace in the sitting room is wonderful and provided a lot of warmth, even when we were snowed in without electricity for a whole day, in April! Susan and James were very welcoming and accommodating. We really enjoyed the homemade bread and farm eggs which were waiting for us on arrival. James kindly took the children around the farm every day -- a real highlight for them. Most spectacular, however, were the fabulous walks right from the front door. Scenery was amazing. Another bonus: the George Pub for top notch grub only one up and down mile walk away. We would love to return -- both to the George and Church Farm.

Stayed in the Ancestral Barn for my sister's 60th birthday. Beautifully put together with a lot of period detail but every modern need, the property was superb as a centre for the long weekend. Susan and James (the owners) made us very welcome - fresh bread and eggs waiting for us on arrival, and our every need dealt with. The farm dogs and the owners' dog are also very friendly without being annoying. The area is also beautiful - good pub restaurants nearby as well as interesting little villages with good finds, such as an excellent cheese shop at Hartington...
