Stayed in the building opposite the hotel/pub. Very comfortable room. Clean, spacious, warm. Comfy bed. Only downside was the communal bathrooms, but was expecting that. No TV in the bedroom, but suspect that is due to poor reception because of the steepness of the valley.
The staff very friendly and welcoming, especially the girls serving breakfast.
The breakfast was superb, lots of it, well cooked. One of the best breakfasts I've had for a long time.

Me, my husband and our 2 kids were staying nearby and had walked approx 3 miles to Clovelly. It was our first time to the pretty little fishing village, and after a long walk and more of a steeper walk on the cobbled stones down from the visitor centre, the New Inn was one of the first places we saw where we could have a drink and a snack. The bar area was quite small and was very busy with people having meals and/ or just drinks. There was an outside seating area too at the rear. There was just one barman who looked very stressed and miserable and there was quite a wait to order at the bar. The atmosphere seemed quite tense too. Us adults had alcoholic drinks and the kids soft ones, which were good, however we decided not to eat there. Admittedly we went at Easter weekend which is a very busy time, but it just seemed that the New Inn has become complacent with its ready steam of tourists that customer care has gone 'down-hill' literally!

We were very disappointed to check in and be shown the "shared bathroom". There was no mention on the website and we just assumed it was en-suite. We had the opportunity to complain after breakfast on the day we left as we were introduced to the owner who asked about our experience ... unfortunately we did not comment as we were unsure whether it was us who had rushed into making a booking without reading the "small print". On our return home we checked and found there was no mention of the shared bathroom facilities so we emailed a complaint through as we believe this is something that should be made clear to guests. We also suggested that they at least leave cleaning products, in case people should be so inclined in the morning to wash the bath/basin, clean the toilet after they've used them. Unfortunately we never received a reply!

I wasn't particularly overwhelmed by the New Inn. Our room was a decent size but looked tired in its decor. The bathroom was very small but had an excellent shower. Just a few niggles:
Tea stains and scuff marks on the skirtings. The radiator had two settings: boiling or off, it was too hot to leave on! I always find it frustrating when plug sockets aren't in accessible places which was the case here where heavy furniture had to be moved out the way.
Breakfast was adequate, selection of cereals and cooked food but the cooked breakfast wasn't very exciting, the sausages tasted cheap and the scrambled eggs overdone.
The village of Clovelly is lovely and to wake up in the peace without traffic was lovely.
Nothing majorly wrong with the New Inn but I think £85 a night was more than it was worth.

My partner and I stayed here for a w/end chilling and relaxing. Very quaint little place with all the charm of a small and very unique fishing village set in the cliffs of Clovelly, there are two hotels to choose from the Red lion and the one we stayed at, the New inn. The room was very comfortable and had everything we needed, a fantastic view of the sea and surrounding landscape was a bonus, breakfast included was fine. I would say that the whole experience was fine, with a few upgrades and attention to detail this place could go from being ok to amazing. One slight niggle was that when we arrived at the visiter centre they said that we had missed the last baggage pick up, this wasn't even mentioned when we booked, we arrived at 3pm so had to carry our luggage to the hotel, normally I wouldn't be to bothered, but if you know the area it's a fair walk on cobbles down hill and if raining can be slippery too. We would have got there earlier if given the info. This aside I would highly recommend the hotel as a lovely place to stay in a fantastic step back in time, not to meany places like this left.

Over night stay arrived at 3pm and welcomed by a lovely guy called Tony. He was really helpful and put us in a lovely room with a balcony view of the village cobbled road fabulous.
He said the bar was open and asked if we wanted dinner that evening. We had booked at The Red Lion just so we could have the challenge of the hill otherwise we would have dined at The New Inn.
The room was very clean and the bathroom was adequate. Towels were soft, shower warm toiletries supplied so over all, all the right things in the right places.
Breakfast was lovely, from a light cereal offering to a full english. We opted for bacon and poached eggs. I also add the poached eggs were done the proper way and really delicious.

Will most certainly be returning to The New Inn

Room Tip: Try and secure a balcont room at the front of the hotel
