We spent 2 weeks in Oak tree. The accommodation was to a very high standard, very very clean and welcoming and with 3 children ranging from 10 months - 5 1/2 years we had all the stair gates in place, cot and plastic cups for the older ones to avoid any smashes. The washing machine and tumble drier was ideal and the kitchen was well stocked which allowed cakes to be made and home food cooked as my kids eat loads!!!!

The facilities for our children were fantastic, they were able to go out and play in the playground, or trampoline, try some tennis on the court ( rackets and balls already there). Our youngest could roam around in the play room. They loved feeding the guinea pigs and goats with Peter the owner. We loved the art loft which was a lovely little haven not just a place with pens and paper. Our son painted a ceramic star fish and it was fired in the kiln for us so we could take it home all sparkly and shiny.
The indoor pool building was very clean and inviting and the pool itself was ideal for the children and ourselves.

The roads are narrow and typical to Devon and although at first we felt we were a bit further from Dartmouth we soon realised that there were quicker ways of getting there, our sat nav never had the same route!!!! Blackpool sands ( not walking with a buggy and little ones unless you are a sucker for torture) but a 3 minute drive or so. Not sandy but shingle and absolutely beautiful with a cafe and a shop.
We were able to visit Paignton Zoo ( went over the ferry at Dartouth - rather than doing the drive around ) Bantham sands ( beautiful flat and expansive) Bigby on Sea ( beautiful and stunning and ideal with kids as toilets are by the beach, cafe great and car park organised and big).
I could on and on!!!
Lynn and Peter were lovely, helpful and thoroughly understanding of what family life can be like when running after young children. Higher Bowden is quite private and secluded and it was lovely in the evenings to relax in our huge lounge and use the entertainment facilities on the tv, or get a dvd from the games room. The grounds are immaculate without being too staged and it was amazing to see the amount of butterflies around and bats in the evening. A wonderful holiday.

We spent a week in Corner Cottage and the cottage was lovely and clean and really well stocked in the kitchen. This is so important to me with children as you eat a lot at home. Good oven, hob and saucepans - I'm easily pleased. The cottage felt a little cool in the evenings but I think this is due to original stone and the heating if flicked on for a few minutes took the edge off of it and keeping the windows open during the day kept downstairs well aired. Bedrooms were down stairs. My son who is nearly 3 loved every second, the swings, goats, guinea pigs, pool, pottery class in art loft, running out the front door to see who else was out playing. It's is perfect for families. I did wish it was a little closer to Dartmouth town as I felt we spent a lot of time in car popping to shops or town. Ten mins in not far but typical Devon lanes and loading kids up and terrible parking in Dartmouth made it a bit more of an effort. That said this is not a negative to the cottages as we knew in advance their location and it does have great access to Blackpool Sands. Lynn and Peter are absolutely delightful and take a lot of pride and put in a huge amount of effort keeping the cottages and grounds to the great standard it was. I don't envy them.

Beautiful location and very spacious accommodation. We stayed in Hayloft, just the 4 of us but plenty of room for 6. Friendly people and great facilities. Apple TV with good selection of movies was a bonus. We did the walk to Blackpool sands twice and although slightly up hill on the way back would definitely recommend. Country lanes were narrow but we soon got used to them and rarely met somebody coming the other way. Kate's cuisine is a must having pre cooked home made meals in our freezer upon arrival. We also made use of the BBQ. Very family friendly holiday.

We have had such a fantastic two week holiday here that I am just about to book again for next year.
We stayed in Garden cottage which is for four people. It was very well set up and had everything we needed. I especially like how things such as Cif cleaner and washing powder are provided, it makes it feel a bit more holiday like rather than having to take everything yourself. It was very clean and spacious, which isn't always the case for cottages for 4 people. The shower was a decent size as well and very powerful. We had a lovely view of the pond and waterfall.
Peter and Lin are very friendly and helpful.
The facilities are excellent. Special mention needs to be made of the pool which uses an alternative to Chlorine. It was still very clean, but it doesn't smell and you don't smell when you get out. We made use of the tennis courts (little racquets provided for little hands) and the putting green and the playground.
We helped feed the guinea pigs and the goats, and also got taken for a walk by the goats once a week (tip: wear wellies).
The boys loved the Art Loft and we did ceramic painting and also photo transfer onto wood which provided a good momento of our visit.
There was lots of wildlife to be seen. The stream was visited regularly by a pair of grey wagtails. We saw a kestrel a few times. There were great views of bats at twilight. We saw a huge hedgehog one evening. Lots of butterflies as well. Not to mention Golly the ginger cat who made himself right at home in the cottage.
Beaches: Blackpool sands is lovely and nearby but shingle not sand. I loved this, but get some beach shoes. The boys prefer sand so we set out to discover. The best beach was Bantham, about 35 mins drive away. Closely followed by Bigbury-on-sea, not much further. We also went to Mill Bay (scary approach, really limited parking). Slapton Sands wasn't really worth it.
A great place perfect for families.

We have just returned from a lovely week here. We stayed in Yeomans Cottage which was spotlessly clean and comfortable and extremely well equipped. The whole site was really well looked after and the owners are welcoming and friendly. It was great to be able to go out for the day and still have plenty of activities to do when we returned. The pool, tennis and golf were our favourites. My daughter loved the guinnea pigs and the goats.

I would definitely recommend Higher Bowden

Blackpool Sands and Woodlands are great days out and only a stones throw away

Great place for a holiday with small children, perfect balance between self-catering accommodation and having fantastic facilities for swimming, playing & exploring with little ones. Idyllic setting, deep in the Devon countryside, crowning a valley leading down to the sea. Very clean, well run, unobtrusive but very helpful and available owners. Very well located for the beach at Blackpool Sands.

We recently spent a week in Beech Cottage on Higher Bowden Farm. Having read reviews and examined the website, my expectations were reasonably high and I'm pleased to say that they were surpassed. The cottage was extremely well equipped, the on site facilities were fantastic, the location was good and the owners were very hospitable. My 2 year old, myself, husband and parents all had a great week. We'll definitely be back as even if we weren't so lucky with the weather the facilities would keep children of a much older age very happy.
