The Cherub Inn dates from 1380 and still retains many of its original features, including some old ships' timbers, and its original use is thought to have been as a Merchant's House. It is the oldest building in Dartmouth – possibly the oldest "town house" in the South Hams – and is a Grade 2* Listed Building, a category reserved for the most interesting of smaller buildings. Great Food and Drink The Cherub Inn prides itself on being a Cask Ale House and Restaurant and offers an extensive menu, from lunch time light snacks and bar snacks to a la carte meals in our restaurant.

I can't believe the negative remarks about the Cherub, we had a superb meal there tonight, really friendly waiting staff, good service and great food, the pub/restaurant was packed. We recommend it very highly.

My wife and I visited this pub for lunch on Thursday 29th May 14, we arrived at 1340 hrs and were made most welcome by both bar and dining room staff.

We had an excellent lunch and a couple of drinks all served by helpful, friendly and professional staff whom I cannot heap too much praise upon.

All in all an excellent experience which will hope to repeat whenever we are in the area.

We saw this pub mentioned here: http://www.buzzfeed.com/timchester/25-legendary-british-pubs-you-need-to-drink-in-baqg, so as we were in the area on a short break, we decided to visit for lunch.

Food and drink were great and very quick in being served.

Well worth a visit, located just up from the harbour side.

Arrived on Sunday about 1.40pm for light lunch. Waitress seemed a little reluctant but pointed to a table for us to be seated. Menu was poor. I had jacket potato with a few crayfish and a slither of smoked salmon. Potato was extremely dry and had to ask for some butter which made little difference. The sandwiches looked ok but the steak & kidney pudding that my husband ordered was nothing special. Waitress made no effort to make us feel welcome and we were not asked if everything was ok. Lovely old building - nice for a drink but we won't be going back to eat.

Built circa 1380 (!) this little inn is just wonderful - full of atmosphere - tiny but brimming with character. A lot of the seating is pews, the decor is black beamed ceilings, and brass fittings. Depending on when you go, you may not find a seat, but it's still worth the visit. My husband and bear (Radcliffe) recommend the Proper Job ale. And do visit the loos on the top floor if you don't mind stairs. Just watch your head leaving the inn. Food is good too!
